Has any other member had a visit from the above re dog ownership?
Just had a call from my wife saying they have visited our house and a new rule has been made that you are allowed a maximum of 3 dogs!
When asked what happens to the others - she got the shrug!
Ok - make a rule if you need to - but surely they don't expect people with more than 3 dogs to cast them back onto the streets?
Mr Ataser - expect a visit from me shortly! this is absurd!

I have been talking via fb with people I know who help with rescues & naturally they have their own dogs.
I have been informed that Naile a lady high up in the Girne Belediyese, & was in charge of the temporary shelter up in mountain says this is not right. You may have 3 dogs but can help as many rescues in your own garden.
Also Altin Patiler a local animal rescue group on face book have many lawyers who fight their cases if necessary.
Please let me know if they try to take this further

As a matter of interest, what sort of identification did these "employees" of Alsancak Belediye show to your wife?!!!

Hi Cally, we have been to see them this morning and got no where!
New rule - he called it a law! says only 3 dogs allowed per household! erm what about the others that we have had for years? "take them to the shelter in the hills" was his reply! You know the one where they dump all the unwanted dogs thats brim full!
We spoke to Enver Ozbirim
Be grateful for any advice.
thanks

Tell the idiot you've opened a dog shelter.... Just like KAR... Then ask "what's the law for dog shelters?"

Just sent an informative reply and its vanished in the ether. First I would think that someone has made a complaint to the Belediye about your particular dogs. Had any comments lately from neighbours? That is almost certainly the reason why Enver from the Zabita turned up i.e. keeping it official. Secondly it is my understanding that the Girne Centre on the Bye-pass is for Girne dogs only (unless a deal between Alsancak and Girne has recently been made) Thirdly it is also my understanding that you can't just go to the Centre in any case, i.e. the Centre is just for strays.
Fourthly, make as much fuss as you want, pity its too late for this weeks C2D but there loads more outlets to make stuff public. You've already made a start by coming on here!!
Fifthly, ask around to see if locals have been approached, remember dogs by law have to microchipped and all registered with the local Belediye!!! Good luck.

Cheers Sophie - HE was asked several times about complaints - none have been made ( well according to him that is) Don't worry a fuss will be made - you have not met my wife! they are all chipped and previously registered!

I've been following the story & saw your comments on H4P's I wasn't able to comment as I walked away from them over a year ago.
It seems there is a lot of interest & horror at the ridiculous "rule" …. You are not alone

My understanding (which I freely accept may be wrong,) is that this is a new Bylaw.
Laws cannot, as far as I know be applied retrospectively to existing situations, that is, they cannot penalise people for situations or circumstances or actions which occurred or were in place before the legislation was enacted.
I would welcome any expert opinion on this position

If this is true Keith then a lot of people can sleep easy tonight. I personally don't know but Altin Patiler are on the case & have legal people on their side

I think it best that we all take a step back for a while until the dust settles. We don't even know whether this extra "tax" that people can pay to keep more than three dogs is no more than the annual "registration fee" that we are supposed to pay for all our dogs, once a year, A law isn't a law until its on the statute books and applied to everyone be they foreigners or locals. At the moment we just have one man, knocking on the door of one house don't we? I understand enquiries are being made.

Glad to see and hear that common sense prevailed at the meeting today and it didn't become a shouting match which it might have done, had people not been prepared to listen to what was being discussed.

Why would anyone want to keep more than 3 dogs?
There is indeed a big stray/wild dog issue in that area.
I have seen many stray dogs up in the mountains.
Deserted and left to return to basic hunting instincts.
The herders of goats and sheep are under constant threat
This is why the poisoning of dogs has become an issue.
Some love some hate.
I support some sort of control.
