Akay Garaj, Lapta. They will arrange all for you - you will pay of course.

Mert Garaj near Saint Tropez restaurant, Alsancak - drive in and get an emissions test there and then.

MoT at the police garage in Girne is straightforward enough too, bring your emissions test paper with you.

Thats great thankyou.
So do the emissions test at Mert Garaj first or will Akay Garaj do the lot?
How much do Akay put on roughly?

Don't forget to pay for your MOT at the Tax Office in Girne,
before you go for your MOT!
Not sure how much it is for cars now.

Akay Garaj will do the lot, start to finish, if necessary. They will also check your vehicle over and address anything that is likely to be an instant MoT fail, eg missing mudguards, service the vehicle too if you wish.

How much will Akay charge (add on charge for doing the running about)... I don't know to be honest. Costs nothing to go to Akay and ask.

Akay is a nice guy and a good mechanic to boot.

Coming from Alsancak direction, travel west along the Lapta strip to the end. Turn left up towards Villa Lambousa. Follow the road around, right and left turns, then straight up to a T junction. Turn right at the T junction. Akay Garaj is on the right hand side, about 50m from the T junction.

If you speak Turkish you could call Akay on 0542 851 36 39, otherwise best to visit to discuss in person. Generally someone at the garage can help out with translation or Akay phones his daughter Sermin who speaks perfect English and will translate between the two for you.

There is a garage just after Tempo that do emissions, left hand side going into Girne. The MOT its self is still a farce.... need new number plates.... yes but not till 31/1/ 19.. no now . Tyres still well within tried level marker in tyre , yes that ok but this not!!!!! Nothing wrong... oh yes BRITs. TRNC drivers were all being let go. Moral get a local person to take your car!!! We know our car is safe but many are not, they don't even check brakes . Rant over

I suggest you go talk with Akay at Akay Garaj, Lapta. If anyone can help sort your MoT without car paperwork he can. Akay can also help you with what's required for replacement paperwork for your car. There will be a cost but that is for you to discuss with Akay should you wish to proceed.

Might be a silly question, but, is the car MOT ANNUAL like in the UK?

MOT is every three years at present.

Just to add to that. ..
Click on the link on the forum to go to Directory and there's a link for MOT dates - look up your registration number in the list (section 'd' - private cars !!!) and it will tell you the dates to take your car to be tested.

If you take it later than that, it will cost a little more.

You need an emissions test -done the same week - then pay for the test at the tax office & take the receipt along to the test centre (police garage).

If your car is 3 or more years old, you need an MOT certificate in order to re-tax it.

Make sure that the vehicle and ENGINE!! are clean, they will check the engine number to make sure that you are not presenting a 'ringer' - ie your mate's car displaying your number plates!

Very trusting ....... not!
