OMG, if anything stirs up a hornets nest, this will. Does anyone think that there is any truth or possibility in this happening?

Don't rush out and book a berth at the Karpas Marina then! Good deep water harbour all ready and waiting.

If it did happen then it would take only a tiny further step to formal annexation. End of the Cyprob. What would we talk about?

'Formal annexation '? Do you imagine that the UN & EU would accept that as an internationally recognized legal move?
Germany and Russia have both found that the opposite is true!

Maybe Keith. However, what success has the UN, EU or USA or any other pact or nation had in solving the Cyprob over 50+ years? Should the TRNC citizens accept a Turkish offer of annexation, how worse of could they be from a West perspective, as the TRNC has been treated in an embarrassing and appalling manner.

Tom, my point is that they will still be unrecognised and treated as an 'illegal state' because only ROC has the internationally recognised right to cede any of Cyprus's territory, due to it's undisputed (except by Turkey) Sovereignty over the entire Island. No amount of 'declarations' will alter that, unfortunately...

Keith, thank you for your follow up response and I cede your point of view has much sense to it. My point is that 50+ years of no recognition to date could not be made any worse by a continuation of that sorry state should annexation be accepted by the TRNC citizens and implemented and the West continues with its HISS approach to the Cyprob. The RoC has no real interest in any solution that does not offer the pre-60s advantages it held then.

Tom, there's no argument!
I wonder what ROC might do in retaliation though...

Winge, cry, have a parade, roll out the lie sheets again, call on the EU/World to help them stop it, keep their refugee payments going, blame the UN/USA/UK/Turkey, ask Greece for help, must be thousands of other things, just can't think of anymore stupid enough to post - lol.
The only satisfactory solution that is wanted by the World is for TRNC to quietly vanish and be written out of all history books forever - ain't going to happen!!!!!

Waddo, you're not wrong.
As long as TRNC &Turkey allow ROC & Greece to sway World opinion with their superb, unrelenting publicity machine, coupled with (possibly baseless) threats of legal action & boycotts, then I can't see that anything much will happen to improve the lot of the TCs.
I think that Turkey are quite happy with their military presence in Cyprus (and a 'settlement' could mean them having to move out!), and the TC'S are just plain dilatory when compared with the GCs and their supporters.

Annexation is not a voluntary process. TCs don't get the option to vote for it and GCs are not asked politely to cede territory. Russia annexed the Crimea recently, lots of noise but no UN sponsored action, unlike Iraq's invasion of Kuwait. The annexation of Austria went well for a while.
Well there is still something to talk about.
