I am over 60 and married and have had temp residency visa for one year and have just renewed it for another year. Contrary to what is published in BRS web site the immigration department in Lefkosia insisted on the following documentation to issue me another years visa.

Passport.
Muhtar letter confirming present address.
Pink ID card with same address as Muhtar letter.
Bank statement.
Photo copy of passport information page and last visa page.
Photocopy of rental agreement or Kochan with same address as Muhtar letter.
8.5TL stamp
216.TL fee
I first turned up with just my passport and pink ID card and was told to go and get the above items.

You say the rental agreement or Kochan must be the same address as Muhtar leter. Did they actually say this at Immigration, or are you just saying it for information for people.

The clerk behind the desk said that the address on the Mayor letter is where you are living now and the rental agreement or title deed should have the same address as where you are living now. My pink ID card had a different address so I had to go to Girne police station with my Mayor letter and get it changed and get official police stamp in ID Card. There was no cost to do this.

Thanks .

Again it's very useful information.

What about about those who are buying their property and do not yet have their Kochan?

Do we need to give thematic copy of our contract/agreement.

Yet another mess which you couldn't make up.

This is a potential nightmare because, like many, my address was changed before the last census and, although it is the same house, my current address is different from the contract address.

Any suggestions anyone?

When I moved a few years ago I just went to the police station and they changed the address and signed it. I took my passport but nothing else.

JBA I wouldn't worry about that - my contract refers only to a map reference! - well, part of a plot number on a district planning map, before they even gave the Street a name, let alone numbered the houses!

As long as the Muhtar will verify that you live there, that seems to tie it all together...

I think that they rely on the Muhtar's local knowledge really - that's why he's involved in this sort of thing.

....and Art - I always take along a copy of every single piece of documentation that I've got, just for the pleasure of watching 'em sift through the stuff that they don't need

Like you Keith I always take everything, so I don't get caught out and have to go again, works for me and have never had a problem, as you say it's nice to see them sift through it all giving you back the bits they don't need

Well, the apartment I owned was in Girne, and I live in Lapta without a contract, so always use the contract for my Girne apartment, but the Lapta Muhtar's letter. My pink book address is also Lapta, and in 6 years, no one has ever queried it.

Did you go direct to immigration or police as before?

I went direct to immigration as I thought this was what I had to do under the 'New Way'. Alas, as I have found out over the last year there is no 'New Way' in most matters of TRNC government administration. Only the 'Way of the Day'. Hey Ho. Its November and I am sitting on my terrace in the sunshine eating breakfast. Bliss. Could not be doing that back in Blighty.

I love this place even with its quirky rules and regulations. As always now, I await with baited breath for signs of change with interest.

Sorry if the BRS web site is giving duff info, but we have had no official news from them - if they've changed it all again, they should really let people know either in the paper or through all the ex pat outlets there are. Will try and get this sorted ---again!! But, unofficially, its always a good idea, whichever office one goes to here to be overburdened with photo copies of everything one has, then if they want it whatever "it" is that day, one has it there already to produce. What a way to run a country?!

I would hazard a guess that it is not BRS that has not been told, it is the staff who have not been told of the changes discussed with you.
Or then again, they have not told you!!! Hey,ho, keeps us all awake worrying about what to take to immigration........NOT!!!!!

I'm sorry , but i fail to see what you are all babbling on about, you have been given the privelage of not having to go to the police station.

So just take every thing that you would have taken to the police, with you to immigration Simples

Yes, as was said at the start, if you have everything you can't be wrong
Why do people try to cut corners and go minimalistic and then complain because they fail to get the response they expect and it's never their fault that they failed to have everything with them it's always the official who wants to see that everything is correct

Hi LooseBoots
OK glad to hear that you sailed through but the object of the exercise is to inform others as to what was required in the way of documentation.
