I've had Window 10 for a while now and have learned to live with all its little foibles, but yesterday the dreaded very latest version installed itself on my laptop and I can't find what was the Control Panel icon i.e. I want to change the screen background. Help would be appreciated.

You can change / personalise your display by 'right-clicking' on the screen (i.e. not on a link or an icon) and then making a selection from the pop-up 'context menu' - e.g. 'Display settings' or 'Personalise' .
This allows you direct access to those settings without having to go through the whole 'Control Panel'...
