A good read, what a pity the writer has to make so much of Islam and Turkish troops along with areas that he was not allowed to photograph or stop in. I would have though he would have known better as the part of UK he comes from is littered with similar areas that belong to the MoD - then again maybe he just ignores them anyway.

was looking for some historical info on Kantara and found it. As he shares our surname and also because we have read one of his books, I looked at the page and read it. I agree with you waddo, but I imagine he is being very careful of his reputation .

The book was ok, may read another, a Dan Brown sort of book.

"...Once across the border, the drive out of Nicosia runs north over a wide flat agricultural plain. Within half an hour, the Kyrenia mountains loom ahead, and in no time the road is bending upwards. On cresting the range, there is a monumental statue of Kemal Atatürk , visible for miles in all directions..."
...Never noticed that ; is it still there - or is it "dramatic licence"?

I think he means the metal structure up on the hill! Would not call it a monumental statue myself but as he is coming from the South where not everything is bigger and better, maybe it surprised him there was even a road - lol. It's ok to be careful with your reputation but it is better to tell the truth - I wonder if he has ever been in the North at all, most of the information seems to come straight out of guide books?
