Can anyone give me any info no how to find out if I am employing legal companies.

ask for a receipt book to see...
on that, the name of company, the adress and the tax number, eg MS XXX, must be written on.

Not impressed...lead to believe the company was registered and legal. Bringing in workers from their own country.

Had all the chat about the huge tax bill they have to pay for their workers and how the workers had to get visas...but I am wondering if they are applying for student visas!!

They have done some dreadful work...didnt finish as I wouldnt let them.....they had two attempts and failed.
They started to threaten me with legal action. We have had to rip up the floors on 3 bathrooms and two large balconies due to the mess they made.

I have just asked them for a refund..lol....now they arent talking to me.

Oh dear, you have fallen for the most used tax avoidance scam in the country (or at least one of the most used) About 7 or 8 years ago there was a dire warning from one of the Government Ministers, to the affect (it was a warning to foreigners) "don't used a company/shop/plumber/electrician etc etc etc" who cannot produce an invoice which doesn't have a Tax Number. That particular week I had paid a gardener, pool cleaner, painter, electrician, garage mechanic, carpenter, restaurant and probably others, none of whom gave me a receipt in any shape or form. Very little has changed i.e. vast majority do not pay tax and their bank is their back pocket.

I assume the government solution will be to fine the foreigners for using companies who don't pay tax.
It will be the logical answer following their normal MO.

1) Stray dogs.
Locals breed 50 dogs to find two good ones to hunt and dump the rest. Foreigners take in the 100s of strays and chip them. A couple have to go home and after not finding a home for thier dog feel they have no choice but to dump it. 500 stray dogs collected, 2 are chipped and can be traced to a foreigner so out of all the registered dogs collected, all belonged to foreigners.


2) Road accidents.
Locals can't generally drive and buy owerful cars their limited skills cant control. Come an accident the only drivers with insurance are foreigners so we take the statistics from insurance companies. Yes its those foreigners again.


3) Taxes.
Casinos and hotels pay sixpence in tax and consume vast quatities of the resources. Foreigners rent out a holiday home and save a couple of hundred quid in tax. The only way of increasing tax revenue is going after those damn foreigners.

If you are going to follow the Middle Eastern mode of economics and politics it helps to be sitting on vast reservoirs of oil.

ETS, nothing ever changes does it. At the moment I am having very, very expensive dental treatment and I know that unless I go to the Dental Hospital I will NOT receive a Tax receipt. Even if I go to a well respected outlet for something like a large fridge freezer or a PC or whatever I know I'll be asked (do you want to pay KDV (do I wan't to!!!)

How can you check via a phone number?

gillken, don't forget it's the employer who is supposed to apply for the work permit for his or her foreign employee, so when an employee leaves or sacked the workmen doesn't move on with his Work Permit to another job. It's not cheap and is a bit complicated to apply for, hence a huge proportion of foreign workmen/ers don't have work permits and in essence are illegal workers. At least that's my understanding of the situation.
