Car insurance question ?

Dagli credt west and capital bank are all telling people that ifvyou buy their fully comprehensive insurance you are covered n the south to drive . I checked my fully comprehensve policy with dagli and it does say cover for both north and south. We then spoke tonthem and they told us we still need to buy the third party fire and theft.

Whats other peoples experience here ? I dont always trust what the banks tell me so perhaps that they are being a bit naughty and telling people they are covered when they are not .

My third party cover note from dagli makes no mention of area so im guessing that whilst the fully comp part provides some cover its not enough to drive legally on the south.

Im sure theres someone here who has the full and correct s.p. On the issue .

The answer is very simple the Greek Cypriots do not recognise Turkish Cypriot insurance!

I have Dagli insurance and I believe (although I am in the UK and my docs are in NC) that I have breakdown cover in north and south but only insured in the north.

Third part insurance that you get for the South covers you if you have an accident in the South that is your fault. The other car would make a claim on this. This is why you need third party cover in the South.
The Comprehensive cover you have in the North will cover any damage to your car. If you should for example write your car off in the South or it’s not possible to drive it back because of an accident, your Comprehensive cover in the north will bring your car back and deal with your claim. Any damage incurred in the South to your car should be covered. Example if you returned to your car & found damage you probably won’t know who did it. This should be covered on your comprehensive policy.
Maybe better to clarify all this with your insurance company. I have been with Kibris Insurance for years & this is how it works with them.
Hope this helps

Quite right Amelia you posted more or less what I would have written but could not be bothered at the time as it seems quite obvious.
Have a good day.

This makes it much clearer.

Whilst in a well known supermarket today there was a leaflet available for Dagli Insurance which stated that there comprehensive insurance provides cover for accidents in south Cyprus.

It is slightly ambiguous as it does not go into the detail as posted by Amelia. Yes the insurance will cover the vehicle that you are driving, however it does not cover the damage etc to another vehicle. Hence you still need to purchase the third party insurance at the border.

I also believe that vehicles over a certain age in the TRNC (10years?) are only insured third party and comprehensive is not available. Maybe someone could confirm? Also maybe someone could confirm that if a vehicle has third party insurance can we add vehicle recovery both north and south onto the policy? This would be very useful,if you broke down on the way to the Karpas for example or whilst driving in the south. Be good to know if any insurance companies here in the north offer this as standard to a third party policy or as an extra that can be purchased.

I concur and its what i told the individual who thought it was ok to drive on the south whith just the comprehensive policy. They had been told by three comanies they where covered. Clearly im nit privy to the exact conversation they had.

I always buy the 25 euro insurance but just wanted to check . Ive emailefd a contact at capital bank and am awaiting a response im expecting them to tell me what has been posted here.

Thnx everyone
