Tatlisu Belediye have recycle bins for glass, tins, plastic and paper. One opposite the Belediye office and one outside the little shop as you drive up into the centre.

Recycling is very active here in Edremit, they just lob them out the car window as they drive down the mountain from a lovely Sunday afternoon in Karaman.

If you go over to the South via Metehan, there are bottle banks just past the insurance offices. I don't go very often but save them up to take once in a while or give to a friend who goes over more frequently.

There's an article on glass 'recycling' in the South here.

It isn't what I understood 'recycling' to be about - here's an example: -

"packaging glass, which is gathered from households and the commercial/industrial sector, is used in the production process for cement by Vassiliko Cement Works... & ...Another unit for glass processing has been given a licence, MS (SKYRA) Vassas Ltd, which produces sand by crushing and grinding glass, to add to earthworks materials,"

So they are efectively 'recycling' glass, using a lot of energy in the process, by grinding it back into sand (that it was made from in the first place) to make cement, instead of just using sand to make the cement...

How does that make sense?

I have heard of recycling glass for that purpose in other parts of the world and whilst I don't know of the amount of energy used in the recycling process for cement as compared to others products, I believe that one of the big benefits to the environment is reducing the need for sand from other sources - illegal sand mining/dredging is becoming a major problem all over the world, although not widely known!

We are working on a local solution to grind glass bottles back to sand. We so far got a proof of concept prototype being tested and working on upscale opportunities.
