Morning All,
I need to go south in the next couple of days, but am only halfway through the residency renewal process, i.e, have been to the police station, clinic and hospital and have my blood test results, but don't yet have the stamp from immigration at Lefkosa. Will I be able to do this?
Thanks in advance.

Probably not. The official answer is no but I did manage it once after alot of pleading and negotiating with the lady in charge at the Ledra St crossing. It involved a lot of time and phone calls and when she finally agreed and told the immigration officer to process it on the computer, they refused and she had to do it herself.

Thank you very much...sounds like it'll not be worth the hassle

Hi all
Someone please edumacate me. You can’t go over the South whilst going through the residency process? Why?
Thanks
Lasagne

Perhaps if you are over 60 it's ok? If you're under 60 and the stamp in your passport has expired then they probably won't let you through or tell you that a fine will be due on your return. If it's more than 2 weeks since you completed the first part of the residency process maybe you could go to immigration en route and get the new stamp in your passport. From experience, it's worth beginning the residency process 30 days before expiry to avoid this sort of problem.

when my work permit expired I always went out at 23:45 the day it expired and re entered after midnight 00:05 which meant being under 60 I still could leave the country. I did incorrectly advise a friend she could go out after her residency expired as it was in the system and within the first 24 hours but she was fined 1 day again being under 60 and in the country without a valid visa or residency.

Thanks everyone. I'll leave it until I have my temporary residency stamp, just to be on the safe side.

Had your residency "expired" though? When I did it as described in post 2 I had applied for renewal but had not yet been to immigration for the new stamp and my current stamp had expired so they wanted to charge me for however many days had passed at that point.
