Does anyone know if you need a license before you purchase a chain saw here, or do you apply for it afterwards. I've seen a nice short one in Erulku which is all I need.

Buy first then register is OK. I do a couple of years at a time.

It's totally illegal to operate one without a licence (from the Forestry Commission I believe).... that doesn't stop the locals but we have seen a local have his chain saw and wood confiscated by the Forestry folk...

I was told it is only petrol chainsaws that need a licence as you can take them anywhere and use them ie in the olive groves etc, but with electric no licence is required as you are restricted in their use. Can anyone clarify this?

We went to the Forestry place in Girne - Orman Dairisi - on right hand side heading from main car park towards state hospital.

A portable generator would render an electric chain saw just as useful in the olive groves etc,

One of the reasons for the licence is so they know where they can call on for emergencies such as Forrest fires. I live in a village and the ledger of permits is by Muhtar area. You can see your neighbours in the register all my local ones are registered.

Now it all makes sense. Funny how many chain saws "buzz" away every weekend. When the "chain saw police" are not working.
