Can anyone advise if there are any ATM machines that do not charge to withdraw Sterling please? Guaranti charge 2%.

TEB DO NOT charge. Your own bank may do but we are with Nationwide and of yesterday they were no charges at all from either bank.

TEB is definitely not charging. Garanti Bank is attempting to charge 2.5% and Ish Bank 1.25%. How this can work I have no idea as Nationwide do not charge for sterling withdrawals so can't see them accepting charges from some foreign bank. Time will tell.

As far as I can tell, and I stand to be corrected - If you want to draw out say £100, then the Garanti (or whatever) Bank ATM will dish out £100 in Sterling banknotes, but debit your UK Bank with £102.50...
You
do get a warning of the 2.5% charge in advance of the transaction completing so that you can abort the withdrawal, don't you?

TEB has a ceiling. Not sure of level, but withdrawals are free up to an TL amount per month. Something like 12,000 TL

It does and it has been posted on here before and I saw it was far more than we would draw out in a month. From memory it is something like £1700 but don't quote me.

My hubby and myself both have Nationwide accounts and drew out Sterling from TEB, Girne in September and were charged £10 per transaction by Nationwide. We rang Nationwide to be told this was correct.

That is how it works but we are talking about the ATM Bank making a charge not the UK bank. That is found out from your bank in the UK.

I have nationwide flex account. Using the visa debit card attached to this account I withdrew £300 sterling from IsBank ATM machine on 3rd December and £300 cash was handed to me and the only debit showing on my nationwide account is -£300. No other charges are showing on my nationwide account.

I think it all depends on the type of account with Nationwide. Some have charges and some don't.....apparently.

Ohhhhhhh, it just shows the importance of checking your statements properly, we didn’t!!
We rang the Nationwide before we withdrew the Sterling and were told there would be a charge on our FlexDirect accounts of £10 per transaction. We accepted what they told us without question as we wrongly assumed they knew what they were talking about - it just goes to show, don’t believe everything you’re told.
We are very pleased to be proved wrong and appreciate the information given by other members of this group. We’ve got the correct information from here after the bank’s employee misled us. We’ll now not hesitate to draw Sterling out next time we’re over knowing we won’t incur a charge.

Saintsfan, you mention free insurance. I too have a flex account but I don't think I am eligible for their cover because I live here full time and all of my travel starts from here and I am away from the UK for months at a time. I believe it is also the sane with my Lloyds Platinum account. Do you know otherwise? Have you made a successful claim?
