Our garden in Lapta which is on the side of a ravine , was largely a jungle when I moved there 2 years ago. During that time 4 walls have been built, giving 3 terraces, excellent work all of it, and last weekend the terraces were planted with fruit trees, beautiful shrubs and trees, There was also a carport. On Wednesday night and early Thursday morning, a wall of water came down the road, over 2 ft. high, I measured where it came to on the front door which I couldn't open as water seeped under it, and the noise was horrific. Some of the water flooded my original garden, but most went down the steps from the carport, --it was like Niagara-- and within a short while the terraces were no more, the beautiful plants etc., were no more, and my car stood in a sea of mud. Had the Beledir, both recent and now gone, had the waterway above us cleaned and repaired, and had the fallen walls repaired, this disaster would never have occurred. Now we're left with a pile of rocks. I can't go through it all again.

Really sorry to hear about this and hopefully you will get back to a normal life soon.
Dumped builders rubble in many areas through out the island will have made a contribution to the current level of flooding. Its about time the beledir were held responsible for cleaning up their area and prosecuting those who continue to dump rubbish...it’s shameful.

Whilst damage to property and personal items furniture cars etc is both upsetting and costly. The weather around the world is getting more extreme. These sights can be seen in each and every country just about. It's happened in U.K. on more than one occasion. Frightening if you are caught in the middle of it.
Yes to a certain extent lessons can a should be learned - and also the ability to predict for the future - the impact of weather in populated areas.
Thankfully don't forget you have your lives - some people haven't

Thankfully nobody was in the house at the time and due to the fact the gates did open Kybele restaurant, the Abbey and whoever may of been on the village's main road leading from the tree of idleness up to Bitter Lemons were saved from a very muddy river and all because someone allowed a wall to be built at the top of a ravine which guided the water and mud along the road seeking weak points.
7 weeks later the house has been emptied of mud in house labour used but we are still waiting for help from the officials who we are supposed to use.
I feel I know the Muhtar, one of the heads at the Municipality and the district office like old friends
