I can't help but feel the vast amount of money spent could of been put to better use.

Worldwide we have poverty & homelessness...….

Whilst not wishing to appear as 'Mr Grinch', I cannot fault the logic behind this post. Starving children in Yemen, Syria and African countries, increasing homelessness and feeding stations in the UK, a failing NHS, Brazilian slums et al! How much did the fireworks cost in the UK alone, let alone across the world?

How much do the London fireworks cost?

The budget for the London fireworks is set each year by the mayor, Sadiq Khan . This year he announced that he was allocating £2.3 million from the Greater London Authority (GLA) for the event.

This won't cover the full cost of the fireworks, but it's expected that ticket sales and concession income will bring in a further £950,000 that will be added to the mayor's budget.

This means that the total cost of the New Year's Eve fireworks is expected to be around £3,250,000.

This is not the final bill, but you have not mentioned the economic benefit of the ticket sales will bring in to the city, an estimated value of £6.5 million.

A little bit of light relief. Lull before the storm maybe.

And what was the bill, across the country (let alone London) for the emergency services' provision? How much of the estimated £6.5 M will benefit London council tax payers, homeless, hungry etc?

You need to put your question to the Mayor of London, .Sadik Khan. He is the one who is looking after the homeless etc. He sends out emails to all Londoners who want to receive them, asking for money from time to time.

As for other Cities, they have their own budgets.

You could put the same question to the Mayor of Istanbul, Mevlut Uysal.

If the Mayor of London is "looking after the homeless etc", he needs to be locked up for negligence or fraud or both. The other UK cities' council taxpayers can ill afford this frippery when there are more important issues to deal with. Mayor of Istanbul, Mayor of Sydney, Mayor of Berlin etc is irrelevant to UK council taxpayers. The peoples of those nations must pose their own queries.

Like I said, contact the Mayor of London with your issues.

I am not defending the Mayor of London, just telling you how it is. Fireworks have gone on for many years at an expense from the budget given at the time. Issues always precede.

Don’t understand why you are getting out of your pram for something that is in the UK. Look behind you and concern yourself what may come from the hand that is feeding you.

Like the saying goes, yesterday’s news is tomorrow’s fish and chip paper. By the end of the week it will be back to Brexit and that is life and Sadiq Khan will still be living his fantasy.

Enjoy 2019.
