Head of the Turkish Cypriot Chamber of Commerce Turgay Deniz and board member Serhan Kombos on Tuesday expressed their support for British Conservative MP Iain Duncan’s initiative to promote direct flights from the UK to the north.

Deniz and Kombos also attended the Turkish Cypriot cultural festival in London on Sunday and signed Duncan’s proposal.

Duncan said he has submitted a motion to the British parliament to collect signatures for direct flights to the north.

He added that after the signature campaign is done, the motion for direct flights will be submitted to parliament for approval.

Speaking at the event, Deniz noted that in the past promises were made to lift an ‘embargo’ on the Turkish Cypriots, which as of today have not been enforced.

He added that due its ‘isolation’, the Turkish Cypriot economy has struggled. Deniz noted that the embargo needs to be lifted and that direct flights to the north need to be started so that all the negative effects of the daily lives of the Turkish Cypriots can be removed.

I believe it was the Edmonton council in UK who originally set it up, you check their website.

I don't wish to be pedantic but I think the Edmonton area of North London is within the boundaries of Enfield council. I think there is a Haringay council, then Enfield council. Please forgive me if I am wrong.

I'm not sure if I'm correct although Ercan has an IATA code it's not recognized by them as an international airport, so it's not possible to plot a flight plan.

You are completely right frontalman. Edmonton does come under Enfield Council, I should know I lived there!
