On Thursday the camera flashed when I passed the one opposite the St Hilarion turning on the Girne-Lefkosa road so obviously I was speeding, by my reckoning 5 miles over the limit on my way to hospital appointment. (No excuse I know) I don't want to keep going in Girne time after time (as I did 4 years ago only to be told to go away, they had no record yet) Any idea of the average time it takes - I don't want to leave so long that I get forget.

I was told in September that they were adding data to the system starting at 2014! So it will take some time to get to this year.

6 years ago I got flashed at Sutluce and the police were on my doorstep 10 days later with the penalty notice.

If you dont receive a penalty notice at all the ticket expires after three years. I was told this at the police station.

Sophie do you mean 5mph or kph? I don't know what tolerance the cameras have if any but in the UK it 'can' be 10% plus 2mph. Even if you were in a 50kph limit you could just be OK. Only time will tell I guess but I seem to recall the limit at that point is 60 kph.

Sophie, I wouldn't lose too much sleep over this if I were you. These things take ages to work through the system and you will find out in due course. The police are very relaxed about speeding tickets, we went in once and found out we had 4 outstanding over a three year period. We couldn't work out who was driving at the times so my wife and I told the police we would take two each. Not sure you could do that anywhere else in the world, but the whole of the proceedings was carried out with much jollity between us and the police officers.

Id be careful about owning up to 4 tickets in 3 year period as theres certain members who will consider this a mortal sin. And a having a laugh and joke with the policee officers im surprised the kibkom traffic police squad havent berated you already.

I have great empathy with people like the first poster who has potentially got a speed ticket for being over a few km per hour over the limit . They issue tickets here like confetti . Many of the speeding limits are lower than the uk . Id just make sure that they have your telephone number on the system.
