If you cant play from your favorites or recents try from the channel tab itself, they have just released a up date today that fixes the issue.

Try clearing cache and uninstalling and reinstalling the app

In the UK for football & other sports I use an app called POTATO streams, you need to google it, this is for android devices, they also now do an app for apple called midfield, works a treat over here, not sure about Cyprus??
