"Product Activation Failed"

I bought a laptop 2nd hand a few years ago and at some point after an update I started receiving the warning "product activation failed". However this has never stopped me using the apps. I then had work done to my laptop in November and when I got it back they had upgraded it to Windows 10. Again, it worked fine but I have just tried to use it (first time since early December) and I find that I cannot edit existing excel spreadsheets or create new windows documents. I have googled and it would appear it is probably because of the subscription issue. I will take it back to Laconic tomorrow but, in the meantime, does anybody know if there is anything I can do please?

From their site , "Up to 1.5 GB available hard disk space" (my underline) - it depends on how many components you want to instal....
