Can anyone recommend a good VPN for BBC Iplayer

I have been using MPN, My Private Network for a few years and has been just fine. This week they advised me that they were merging with Le VPN, a french company and that I simply needed to switch over using same credentials..... all sounded very simple..... not so. It has been a complete nightmare that I have spent the best part of the past three days trying to sort out, so, as I don't not want to waste any more of my precious short life messing around with this rubbish.... I am looking for recommendations for other VPN's that work with BBC Iplayer. I am happy to pay, don't have a problem with that. Any recommendations gratefully accepted. Thanks in advance.

Pure VPN works fine for me for iPlayers, lottery etc. Do a search for Pure VPN offers as they regularly have deals.

I use StreamVia SmartStream which is brilliant. No slowdown of speed which is often possible with a VPN and no problem with BBc or any other. https://www.streamvia.com/index.html

Express VPN is very good, I get all the "live" British tv stuff with it

I also use StreamVia SmartStream and it is fantastic. I have a smart TV and can watch BBC, ITV, etc. directly on my TV without the need for an Android or Mag Box. £4.99 per month.

Try NORD VPN.

Works perfectly and it’s reasonably priced.

Good luck.

Thank you for the replies, Judy Vin, I am thinking of Streamvia, can I ask though is it easy to set up, and do you know if it works on a Samsung smart tv, if it does, it sounds like the one for me. I was told that you could not set up a VPN on smart tv. Many thanks again.

I use http://www.smartdnsproxy.com and find it great too. Checked and it has set up instructions for smart tv including Samsung. You get a 14 day trial to see if it suits before committing yourself.

I can confirm Streamvia can be used on a Samung TV or rather through my Amazon Fire TV to the Samsung. It was easy enough to set up although I did need to contact the online support who were very helpful and sorted me out.

Yes Mrsgee it works on my Samsung TV and I must admit that I did have help from the amazing Erol to set it up. It is the best thing and really well worth it if you watch BBC as I do. I also stream the live channels too!

StellaStar1, don't give up, especially if, like me you paid a years subscription in advance. I have now finally got it working after messing around since last Monday. If you still have the email from MPN which tells about the change, you can reply to that and explain what the problems are. It took quite a bit of toing and froing, online chats with technicians, etc, but, got there in the end. I don't know how far you have got with the installation, but, it has to be opened in a completely different way to MPN previously, not just clicking on the desktop icon. You may need to go through the same as I did, in that a technician from MNP took control of my laptop and set it all up remotely. In fact, he did it on two. They are very responsive, and will still support customers even though it is no Le VPN. Best of luck. I will still probably look to change to StreamVia as I would like it set up on my TV, just need to take a break from all the techie stuff for the moment.

I have NORD VPN had it for around 4 months it has thousands of servers to pick from even has 4 from Cyprus, I signed up for 3 years, it was on special at the time, and only cost me around $100, they keep NORD updated all the time, and it doesn't expire until October 2021, easy to set up and just leave alone, it just works.

Thanks for reply mrsgee, I have downloaded it ok, but it won't let me install it, keep saying there is a problem. Have gone back and forth with the online help to no avail, now mpn has stopped my monthly payment, and le vpn has not asked for anything yet, but will try again with the online help.

yes i was getting a problem too, kept getting a windows security message asking for me to enter log on, tried all i could think of, nothing worked. then it kept saying there was a problem with firewalls, took them off, still no joy. That's when I started to get really annoyed, and MPN offered me the online support, during which they loaded it all remotely.... it now works. but i did have to go back and ask them to explain how i actually launch it. all ok now, a happy bunny. I would not bother with Le VPN support, they were hopeless, MPN support did it.

I’m afraid it doesn’t.

Nord are still working on the technology.

Thank you Art, not an option then. I have now sorted MPN, which is now Le VPN, which is working just fine, what I am now looking for is a VPN that can be used with Samsung Smart TV so I don't have to keep tripping over the HDMI cable...., looks like StreamVia may be the one. Thanks for all the responses.

I think you will find, Mrsgee, that you cannot use a VPN with your smart TV (not so smart maybe!). StreamVia is a smart DNS setting which is slightly different from a VPN and from what Judyvin says that is what you need.

I've used Channel Hopper for two years and it has always worked pretty well. If you want it for the whole year it costs €80, but you can subscribe for a shorter period, and that may suit some 'swallows' who come out for a few weeks at a time:

Mrs Gee
A light bulb moment apologies if you've done it already

I take it you are HDMI 'ing your laptop to the TV to use the vpn for the BBC iplayer

Thats why you want a vpn on your smart TV

Why not have an android box with vpn on it
The iplayer will work on the android box

This box has been good I have one in cyprus and the UK don't use the kodi part but use the .apk's including the BBCi player and the ITV
I need a new vpn as my free one stopped working

Anther shout for Streamvia from me. Been using them for 3 months now. Had an issue the other week when I couldn't get any of the UK tv on demands programmes. Quick email and they replied within minutes with a very simple to understand fix which worked. Also emailed them today as I am unable to view QuestOD and the reply was that it was not on their list but they will have a look at ways of getting it. They did then suggest that I use their vpn on my laptop or phone and posted a 'how to' as well. Within minutes I was watching on the laptop.

It is a very reasonable price in the first place but the service is excellent.
