Flooding?

I have had several messages in Turkish on my Telsim phone from POLIS.
From what I can gather they are warning about the road conditions especially on the Girne - Lefkosa road, but other roads and areas have been mentioned.
Does anyone know what areas have been particularly affected and where to avoid at the moment?
I also believe there are rocks/stones falling on some of the mountain areas.
Stay safe everyone.

There was a report on Facebook at 7am this morning saying that the Gonyeli to Kyrenia Road was closed due to excessive rain. Quite a lot of flooding in Çatalköy at 10am this morning, the Belediye had a JCB out near Çoban.

Thanks for that feedback. Let's hope it starts clearing soon and that no-one was hurt this time.
If anyone has other news please let others know here.
I don't do Facebook so don't get that information, and I am sure I am not the only one.
Drive safely and if you don't need to be out in it, stay home.

I think both the main mountain roads were closed last night but we went South @ 9.00 from Girne this morning & returned home recently no problem although of course there is a lot of water everywhere.

As far as I can make out (and my Turkish and translation of the Police messages is by no means guaranteed) the main problem was VERY limited visibility as a result of a combination of heavy rain and fog! (I am not sure what type of climatic conditions produce that particularly combination). and drivers are asked to drive slowly and carefully. It seems to me this weather will produce all kinds of hazards and it is a case of "is your journey really necessary" so the roads are kept as clear as poss. for those who have to travel for work and particularly emergency services.
It would be nice if a fluent Turkish speaker could give us a full translation? As mentioned above not everyone does Facebook.

I've received 5 messages from the Polis one yesterday evening 4 today, on my Telsim phone. All in Turkish. I tried google translate & got the gist of the fact that they were bad weather warnings. & the areas to avoid
This morning they appeared to be more about fog than flooding & there was a warning about the Bogaz area & poor visibility.
Nothing on the Turkcell phones ,last time the weather was exceptionally bad I had a message allowing me free minutes in case I was in difficulty

Went over the Girne Lefkosa mountain road this morning. Visibility was very poor and it was very wet. People were not using their fog lights but driving with hazard flashers on. It was very distracting as you didn't know if you were approaching an accident or a traffic queue. Is that what police here advise in fog?

I've no idea what they were advising with regards to lights. Goole translate is a bit gobbledygook. All I could get was possibly to avoid the areas mentioned & to drive slowly & with care.

We came back from the yesterday afternoon, on the newly rebuilt mountain road. just at the Ciklos bends, there was a guy in front of us, his car was wandering about a bit and driving slow. when we past him he was texting. At that time is was absolutely chucking down and visibility was not that good.
Crazy.

I haven't got it myself, but I gather there is something that you can join which is a bit like Breaking News i.e road closed and "danger" messages appear on smart phones from the police when necessary. I heard someone talking about it yesterday, but that's all I know.

Sophie The texts that came through was to an ordinary little bog standard phone which is why I couldn't follow Mimi2 's instructions to copy to google translate I had to go the computer to type it in. Gave me the general idea of what the texts were about without all details

Thanks to everyone for their feedback, it's been a great help to me and I am sure to others.
Glad to hear people were driving slowly, but shame that some drivers still insist on texting and using their phones whilst driving!!!
People don't learn!

Yes, Ragged Robin. In the early 80's my Flight to Ercan was re-directed to Antalya due to a huge blanket of fog rolling in over the Messoria Plain. I also remember being doubled up with pain due to arthritis in my back. That was in early FEB. I don't remember such frequency of Rain lasting so long over the winter though.
