Yesterday my wife was driving towards Tempo Essentepe when she was stopped by the police in a roadside check. She had all the correct documentation and licence for her 5 montth old car. The police officer walked round the car and discovered that the offside mudflap was missing. He then proceeded to issue her with a penalty notice for this with a fine of 157.50tl Is this a zero tolerance policy now for the police or was it just a bit harsh for one missing mudflap?

They've definitely got a big thing about mudflaps! You'll fail your MOT if you don't have them, or if they're dirty. Where they stopped your wife is a prime site for police getting you, especially if you are speeding, so if they stopped her they wanted to find something!

Zero tolerance is fine because at least you know where you are as long as there is consistency

This happend to me 12 years ago 180tl on the sot fine also fined 3 days later for a slight crack in my number plate.

I was caught doing 96 kph on the Girne bypass in a 75 kph zone just before Christmas. I put my hands up and apologised and the nice policeman let me off and said "Merry Christmas Mr Mark, don't do it again."

Yep the mudflap was mentioned when we had MOT done earlier this year, but only with a "get one put on sometime"

I parked next to a car a couple of months at a local garage, which was tied together with string and tape (Honestly) Back seat appeared to be piled high with large paint pots, the front passenger seat had no back (a bloke was sitting there nonetheless) Rear window was mucky polythene sheeting and no wing mirror on drivers side. I was going to take reg number but it drove off before I could find a pen and only half the plate was fitted in any case.

It was probably pay day and there was no money in the coffers....just saying....

Friend of ours has just been stopped in the Essenteppe area and fined for one mudflap missing. A car driven by a local with no number plate or mudflaps was stopped, the driver spoken to but allowed to go without a fine. I wonder what would have happened had she took a photo of the offending car and the policeman and made a complaint.
