I wonder which taxi company it was. I often use cyprus Booking.com and find their service to be professional and reasonably priced.
Hope this is not a sign of things to come.

It sounds more like a driver has done a trip in a non licences car as some do.

In most countries it is illegal to use a private car to carry passengers 'for hire or reward.'
I've never had a problem being picked up or dropped off by any properly registered taxi at Larnaca Airport. (I'm always amused by the way they cover up the 'T' part of their registration number with a bit of gaffer tape at the crossing though!)

Does this not make it a private vehicle?

Taxi drivers often have quite a say in government policy, you only have to look at black cabbies in England. How on earth have they managed to opt out of paying congestion charge for example?
I'm guessing the taxi drivers at Larnaca airport will use this as an opportunity to remove some competition in the same way black cabbies rail against Uber in London.
