How do I remove a stain from a black granite worktop?

I had the oven door resting on the granite worktop whilst I was cleaning the oven and I also sprayed the cleaner on the door without even thinking what it would do to the worktop. Unfortunately it has left a rectangular outline where the cleaner has permeated through the granite along with a few other areas that also caught the spray! I have tried everything I can think of to bring the stain out but to no avail. There is no damage to the surface of the granite Has anyone got any suggestions? It will be a very costly oven clean if I have to replace all of the work tops.

We have similar mark and a tip was to spray a little WD40 on it. Of course this washes off but can be reapplied. Worth a try maybe.

I shifted citrus spray stains from our black granite by polishing it with olive oil. Just keep buffing and reapplying and buffing well and hopefully the stain will be removed.

I don't think that the oven spray has probably 'stained' the granite...
What I think may have happened is that the spray dissolved some of the oily/waxy coating that the worktop installers used to polish the worktop to a glossy finish, so that the areas that were sprayed look greyish and dull in comparison to the parts that are still shiny.
The previous comments re. using WD40 and olive oil are not bad really, because these products will eventually permeate the surface and be absorbed by the granite, although as mentioned you need to keep re-applying them and use a lot of elbow grease. Black shoe polish is another possible contender.
A quicker solution would be to contact the Company that installed the worktop and ask them to come and re-polish it - I think that they use a beeswax type product and a high speed buffer pad on an electric drill so that the heat generated by friction helps the wax penetrate the surface.
I've spent many a happy hour polishing mine!

Put a generous amount of oil, WD40 or HG granite cleaner (available from Superhome on South) on the area & leave it for 24 hours to really soak in, this has worked for us.
