From my reading of the kibrisgazetesi pages posted above by alphamike (using Google translate) it appears as though the new rates are:

Winter rate 16 October to 15 May
07:00-17:00 - daytime tariff: 0.9873 TL/kWh
17:00-22:00 - evening tariff: 1.2918 TL/kWh
22:00-07:00 - night rate: 0.6508 TL/kWh

weekend/holidays:
07:00-17:00 - daytime tariff: 0.9873 TL/kWh
17:00-22:00 - evening tariff: 1.2708 TL/kWh
22:00-24:00 - w/e tariff: 0.9873 TL/kWh
24:00-07:00 - night rate: 0.6308 TL/kWh

Could someone with much better Turkish confirm/amend this?

solar energy systems work from say, in summer 7 - 20 and in winter from 8 to 16. say 1 TL + 10 % VAT = 1,1 per kWh = say, 18 eurocent per kWh.
thats nearly 30% up (from 0,79 + VAT) ... and reduces payback accordingly.

No advantage to us consumers unless you only want to use power after midnight. Highest rate during the day great no air con in summer then.

From what I can understand, all residential customers (apart from those using solar) will go on this new 3 tier system from 1st April. If you use less than 300 kWs over a 30 day period you get a 15% discount on the 3 tier system.
You can also get an hourly breakdown of your usage if you contact Kibtek.
After one month, if you prefer, you can change to a fixed tariff of 0.99 TL / kWs.

Kibtek are saying that you can set your heavy duty use for during the night at the lowest tariff (by means of a timer), such as washing machine, dishwasher, hot water etc. (I am not sure what the etc. might be). This is completely at odds with what the Fire Service have been advising after some house fires of late, advising not to use washing machines when you are asleep or out of the house.

I've made up a list in English from the Kibtek poster. I hope that I've got it right.

The only info that I have is what I read in the local paper. Those with solar will be charged the one rate, rather than the 3 tier, which I think will be 0.98 or 0.99 TL k/Ws

yes, for homes with solar net metering systems you will get the one tariff, which means that PV net metering systems are generating ( = lower electric bills) one kWh for approx 1,1 TL (incl VAT, as the kWhs from solar are deducted before billing).

today it is, for a, eg, 5 kWp system for a (12 month) average approx 0,90- 0,93 TL incl VAT.

a PV system could (if quality is ok.... ) generate a kWh for approx (today ) 0,27 TL.
payback would be approx 4,2 to 4,5 years. (no price rise from kibtek, exchange rate unchanged)

pls note, there are plans to limit the max to be installed PV power for each home. 5 kW for single phase and 12kW for 3 phase homes.

btw, after one month after introduction of the 3 tier system = 1st of may, home customers can go back to the one tariff.

on top, there is a 15% deduction from the bill if you use 300 kWh a month and below.
whether this applies for homes with solar systems as well i dont know. (eg must it be lower as 300kWh a month before or after deducting solar energies kWh?)

Totally confused with our electric bill, we had our usual text on 18/3 giving a payment date of 17/4 , we then had another one sent on 31/3 giving a payment date of 30/4, this one had an extra 81tl added on, can anyone shine any light on this crazy situation because I am at a complete loss with it all.

We have paid ours in the bank this morning and was told that we have paid up until the end of March as the meters were read then and the bills issued. Then the new tariff starts as of the 1st of April so you have paid up until the end of March I expect.

Not really,just think Economy 7 although not exactly the same it will put you in right frame of mind.Can't see what the fuss is about,people now have an option to actually reduce their bill if a few adjustments are made to lifestyle.As usual there will always be the sceptics........convinced that they are being 'ripped off'.....shame really.

Like Samson I immediately went back to the days of Night Storage and Economy 7 (happy days) We'll definitely put washer and dish washer on at night, my only concern is if one or the other springs a leak during the night!!

I've no objection to the 3 tier system, but it's the sneaky way that they have increased prices, without announcing the hike, that I think has irked most people. The hours of the 3 tier system are overly complicated too. I've written down a list of times with rates and stuck it to the fridge door as a memo, having a terrible memory.

On the safety side of things, I am not keen on Kibtek advice on putting things like washing machines/tumble dryer/dishwasher on a timer to operate during the cheaper periods. The advice from the fire service anywhere, not just here, is not to use these items when you are asleep or out of the house. If they do go on fire, there is more risk of the fire taking a good hold, against when you are up and about, you would hopefully notice it quickly and take appropriate action.

well,
i spoke to many people.. and they basically say it is "unpractical".
vaccuum cleaning at night? get up and start dishwasher, washing at 12?
buying new appliances with timers for a fortune?
using tumble dryers instead of hanging up the washing before going to bed and have them ready for use in the morning (in summer)?

it basically seem to be a price rise.
a neccessary one, i guess. below approx 17 cent a kWh (0,98 plus VAT / approx 6,3 to the euro) it is difficult to run and maintain the fuel based old powerstation + distribution system and supply a reasonable service...

so, solar!

What can Kibtec do ? They need to try to make a profit. Everything is up in price. I suppose they by fuel in Dollars ?

But electricity is an absolute bargain. I know we all moan about our bills . But to be able to put on a switch on and draw as little as you wish or as much as you need form the grid is marvelous.

We lived with out Electricity for 15 months plus. Using various generators , But to have left our large Generator on with sufficient KW. to be able to use anything you needed in the home. Plus pool pump etc. We tried it for one week and it was 1877 tl in diesel costs. That was in 2009 when diesel was approx. 1.85 per ltr. ( and noisy)

You need to live without it to realise its a good deal.

Does anyone know how they can work out a three tier system when we only have one meter? And therefore one meter reading. Has anyone got a meter that records three different tariffs?

during the last 5 years kibtek installed in every house and business gsm based smart meters.

one feature is a clock... and they store datas ( in a cloud at kibtek) and are free programmable,
so, even more tariffs would be possible.
another feature is that they are "bidirectional" , meaning, they can count, in case of solar or other installations, the " feed in" .

these meters are part of SCADA, an energy management system.
