Turkish airlines flights & Visa?

I am looking to book flights from Ercan to London Gatwick with Turkish airlines next month. I have selected flights but there is a warning that I may have to collect my bags for the connecting flight and go through security and passport control and will need to purchase a Visa. I have never had this before. The outward flight is to the new airport and the return is Sabiha Gokcen. Can anyone tell me if this is something new?

If you are just going through transit you don’t need a visa. We came through the new airport last week through transit and security but not passport control.

Yes that is what I have always done before but on the particular flights I have selected it has that waring. The earlier/later flights do not have this warning.

The warning came up when I booked, but it was fine. Maybe it is because you are coming back through a different airport so the system assumes you are coming out of the main one..... maybe best to contact the office In Lefkosa just to be sure. We had already got valid visas from previous trip to Turkey so we were prepared, but didn’t need them.

We missed our connection last time in Istanbul and had to pay for a Visa each which we did not expect as we had to collect luggage from the carousel. It was a poor experience for us all and one we won't do again as we fly direct from London to Larnanca. Would like to fly to Ercan but after last Turkish Airline experience never again. No compensation despite being 6 hours late a they said they were not European and not covered by the compensation scheme

Having recently watched the UK travel TV programmes, I understood the legal position regarding flight's delays as: If the flight originated within the EU or which involved an EU-based airline, compensation was a legal right to be claimed .

It was last summer and Turkish Airlines played hard ball. Got all the correspondence and after all the communication we gave up the will to live. The upshot is we will not use TA again. I will never suggest Istanbul with a transit of less than 2 hours
