Interesting developments re: Sky TV reception in Cyprus from the Astra 2F

Visitors to Cyprus can't help but notice the size of some of the satellite dishes that people have installed in their gardens, but why would you want to go to the expense and inconvenience of installing one of these massive 4.2m monstrosities on your property ?

"It came 'highly' recommended and seemed like a good idea at the time !"

Largely, the British Expatriates who paid the £3,000 (plus) installation fee, followed by monthly payments of £60 - £80 to have these Sky TV systems installed on massive 4.2m satellite dishes (and there are many), were following the recommendation of what 'some' may describe as an international 'syndicate' of back-scratchers.

At the same time, other members of the forum predicted that the purchasers of the very expensive 4.2m dish and Sky TV solution were likely to experience future problems and with the loss of many of the popular UK TV channels (BBC, ITV etc.), they have, BUT at least they haven't lost all the channels.

The channels that they have lost however, are the UK free to air channels that they least wanted to lose - the ones that they probably watched the majority of time (BBC, ITV etc.)

Needless to say, when the UK free to air channels were temporarily transferred onto the Astra 1N satellite, the people who had invested their hard earned cash in these expensive Sky TV systems were sorry to lose them, but they are 'hoping' that they may get them back when the channels are transferred onto the new Astra 2F satellite which was recently launched and (at the time of writing) is currently undergoing tests at a different location. It is expected to be moved to its permanent position very soon and is projected to begin transmitting before the end of November or, very early in December.

Industry watchers are predicting that the UK beam from Astra 2F is going to be 'even' more focused on the UK than its predecessor which is bad news for the owners of the big dishes, but we will just have to wait and see.
