VPN's for Smart TV's
Looking for a solid VPN that works with a Smart TV (mine is LG) and have read all the posts on VPNs I can find but they all seem to be aimed at Laptops or PC useage - am I missing something here? All help gratefully received.

I use stream via, which also includes a DNS for smart TV, although have not yet set it up, it does come with instructions on how to do it.

Re: VPN's for Smart TV's
I have IPVanish installed on my smart TV Waddo without a problem. Well I say without a problem it will not let my use catch up tv so I use Streamvia instead which at £4.99 a month is very reasonable and they have a vpn as well. So next month when my contract with IPVanish is up I will not renew it as I am not using it.

Re: VPN's for Smart TV's
Thank you people, I have gone with NORD VPN on recommendation from the IPTV supplier that I currently use. They also recommended the others stated in your posts but put NORD as the top choice. Cost me 114 euros for three years and I can get out of the whole thing anytime within the next 30 days so it seemed like the one to have. Cost was not an issue but not being able to get F1 (VPN is cheaper than going to the race - lol) makes my weekends am misery!
Can't answer questions on how good/bad it is yet as still in a learning curve but many thanks so far for advice.

Anybody have any problems with using VPN? If I switch mine on it reduced download speeds to under 4MBs despite everything I have tried or the VPN Support Desk have tried.

Did a speedtest to London with it on and off, very little difference.

Re: VPN's for Smart TV's
Jonnie, Just done a speed test with London with VPN off = Down @ 27.7, Up @ 4.8. With VPN on to London = Down @ 10.3, Up @ 2.2. I would think I have a problem somewhere in there - lol.

Not an expert but it looks like there is a bottleneck through the server providing the VPN

Re: VPN's for Smart TV's
Worked with the provider (VPN) support for three hours yesterday - tried all sorts of different settings and locations but to no avail. Sent an email to Erol (the guru) and waiting for a reply but told him not to rush and he is a very busy guy anyway, had enough for today - tomorrow is another day when I am my own customer so no worries. Many thanks.
By the way, if I connect to Multimax speed test I get speeds in the low 40's as well - dead please with them!!!

Re: VPN's for Smart TV's
You will always lose some speed with a vpn as the signal is having to travel to in your case London and back as opposed to locally. Price we pay for hiding where we are I guess. In any event with that speed from Multimax I wouldn't worry as it is plenty to watch stuff. We have less than half of that in Catalkoy and manage OK. As long as you have more than 4mb you can manage.

Re: VPN's for Smart TV's
Quite agree that I will lose some speed but over half is excessive, I am also in Catalkoy by the way. Point being that I did not pay for a VPN that would cut my speed in half to supposedly give me a buffer free connection, this has failed and before I go back to complain to the VPN provider I need to be certain that it is not me and the way I have organised my home network. Only fair!

Re: VPN's for Smart TV's
Just a quick word about Nord VPN. They have admitted to me in email chats that they are working on a fix for BBC Iplayer as it does not mask the IP address at the moment.
If anyone has found it will please let me know !!
Thanks in advance.

Re: VPN's for Smart TV's
Success! NoordVPN came back to me this morning with a suggestion that I use "Obfuscated Servers" in their setup. Did that and it all works just fine with hardly any noticeable drop in download speeds at all. This is now successfully installed on my Windows 7 PC. Now I have to get it all to work on my Mac Mini, my iPads/iPhones and finally find a way to install the whole thing onto my LG Smart TV - which is the only thing I actually wanted it for, lol.
Will update as things happen as any information is useful to people trying to solve problems.

Re: VPN's for Smart TV's
Multimax used to advertise their VPN; it doesn't seem to connect any more or is it just my setup that is the problem?

Sods law strikes again !
The VPN works now. They said it is dependent on the server number you select...lower numbers work it seems.

Received this from Nord yesterday.
Regarding BBC streaming, please follow one of these guides and let us know if it helped to solve your issue:
If you are using the BBC app:
Check if your location services are disabled; (GPS, etc.)
Delete the BBC app;
Restart your device;
Disable CyberSec feature; (MacOS(OpenVPN)/Windows/Android/iOS NordVPN applications)
Connect to our recommended servers for BBC;
Download the BBC app and then try to stream;
If you are using a browser to access BBC:
Disable CyberSec feature; (MacOS(OpenVPN)/Windows/Android/iOS NordVPN applications)
Check if your location services are disabled; (GPS, etc.)
Clear your browser's cache completely (even if you tried before);
Connect to our recommended servers for BBC;
Try to access BBC.
We recommend using UK#462, 770, 607, 970, 1005 servers.
There's an article, where we share the latest known information regarding the Netflix availability, in our knowledge base:
https://support.nordvpn.com/General-inf ... ordVPN.htm
Please note, that due to multiple factors, NordVPN cannot guarantee 24/7 availability for all geo-restricted content. However, I can assure you that our techs are constantly working to provide secure access to as many websites as possible.

Re: VPN's for Smart TV's
Most of the vpn are unable to let you watch UK catch up tv. We gave up with ours and use Streamvia which at £4.99 a month was cheaper and can watch what we like when we like. They also have an excellent help desk.

Re: VPN's for Smart TV's
For watching TV through the iPlayer and the ITV equivalent, I would recommend this VPN:
https://channelhopper.tv/
Its particularly good for 'swallows' as you don't have to subscribe for a full year, only a minimum of a month.
