Can you tell me what you want to filter out of the air (smoke, dust, pollen, etc?) and where you want to do this (house, kitchen?).

general household pollutants (smoke dust etc.) in our lounge/kitchen

Depending on the age/quality of your air con, you should be able to run it on "Fan only" i.e. no heating or cooling, just air movement *. Many modern a/c units contain active air filtration systems such as electrostatic dust/smoke extraction. If you are not sure whether you have that facility, try running your a/c in a smoky atmosphere and see if it clears.

* This usually appears as a propeller symbol on the mode switch.
