After being put through the mangle I have been told that they are going to pay the maximum amount of compensation due under EU law €600/£ equivalent
Happy days for delayed flight.

How long did you battle with them?

5 months, you have to complain direct at first, they just stonewall you then take the case to the independent adjudicator and get the judgement, simple!

Bold /determined/ informed.
There were six on the same flight and transfer,i wonder if the other five bothered
.An English tradition of not complaining,
Could you be bothered for 600 euros?
Simple

Well done I only wanted them to refund my taxi fare from Ercan to Kyrenia due to a missed connection, I gave up after about 3 months. Money wasn't the criteria, it was the principle, but I would rather swim the Med than fly with them again!

Well done, so many give up at the first refusal which, of course, they (including insurance companies) are relying on. The rules are clear and they have to abide by them, eventually...

Well done but they will probably make you go in person to the Turkish Airline's desk at either LHR or LGW to collect it, in person, with your passport and the credit card with which you purchased the ticket. The last test I failed, as my Amex card had been renewed in the interim and the numbers slightly changed.

They are paying direct into my UK account.

Without admitting liability they wanted me to go to their main office in London.

Just for anyone who is interested, you can claim up to 6 years ago but you have to have all the information to hand.

I can only pass on information on this subject I received from a UK-based travel guru. Compensation is only paid if the flight originated from within a EU country or involves a EU registered airline. Clearly, Ercan doesn't meet the criterion, hence TA are not liable for the taxi expense involved - according to the EU rules.

The flight originated from the UK, maybe they were spinning it out until we left the EU!

No flight to Ercan originates from the UK they originate from Istanbul, you have had a connecting flight

The point being made is that the Ercan flight originated from Turkey, which is not in the EU and TA is registered in Turkey. So your claim for taxi expenses fails on both counts.

We had a 2 hour flight delay with Turkish airlines at Ercan, which meant we missed our connecting flight, also with TA, at Istanbul. I wrote and complained about the lack of staff around to meet us, to sort out the next flight, and we got over 1,000 tl compensation.

A couple of years ago Flying out of Ercan the plane was late arriving so tracked TA guy no problem Istanbul will sort
I said no problem I'm staying here fly another day
We then went to their office back from air-side to look for flights nothing all seats sold
So what about business class i have TA air miles He booked us in business class all the way back to UK no air miles used
He then got us a taxi paid the man in cash back to Girne
A couple of month latter back on island the Lefkosa office paid for my Girne Ercan taxi a fixed amount in cash as I did not have a receipt
Daughter missed the last night connection flight to Ercan and caught the dawn flight out of Istanbul nice night in the business lounge

First you have to complain direct to the airline, you will be stonewalled, after that look up ADR and fill in the online form, keep all details to hand, they will determine whether you have a case and advise.
Don't loose heart!

Hi - we was delayed at Istanbul for 4 hours last Thursday our next flight was 10.5 hours long......I am wondering if we would be entitled to compensation as not sure if Istanbul is classed as being in the EU?
Many thanks

Did your journey start in an EU country is the key to any answer? If yes, you have a case. If not, you do not.

The flight has to start, transit through or land in an EU airport.

Thanks all - we started from Ercan

Where did the journey end?
If you were travelling to, say, UK, and the flights were booked as a single journey (i.e. your luggage would be transferred to the second aircraft automatically) then I think that you should qualify for compensation, as the end point would be in a EU Country.
I could be wrong, but it's worth a punt!

So where did you fly to from Istanbul?
If it was an EU country the you are due compensation calculated from
1,length of delay
2,distance from start to finish
Simples

We travelled from Ercan to Istanbul then onto Singapore...
When we got to Istanbul we then saw the 4 hour delay
We checked our cases in at Ercan and they went straight onto Singapore
Thanks

So, no EU country involved at all, I think that you're stuffed!
