Getting a TRNC driving licence
anyone done it recently......sorting out administration when you get here is an absolute pain in the jaxi
so...bottom line is.......can i get a TRNC licence without having residency?
The licence application form states that i just need:
2 x colour photos (professional ones for driving licence)
Original and copy (both sides) of current UK driving licence
Valid EU/UK passport
Can anyone confirm that this is all i need......pretty please
Im hearing rumours that i need a Mukhtars letter AND confirmation of residency.

Re: Getting a TRNC driving licence
I got my licence last September; I DID get letter from the Muhktar to confirm that I own a property, but I do NOT have residency, and yes, I took the other items that you list - nothing else (except money and patience! )

I believe that first time of application it has to be done in Nicosia......is this correct?jofra wrote:I got my licence last September; I DID get letter from the Muhktar to confirm that I own a property, but I do NOT have residency, and yes, I took the other items that you list - nothing else (except money and patience! )

Yes you do, and you need to be 60+ without the residency stamp as of last June.

Re: Getting a TRNC driving licence
This was the "state of affairs" as of July 2018.
I am "60+", BUT - as far as I can see, there is NO mention of age and/or residency - the list of requirements specify only (especially noting item 5) -
1. Copy of your current driving licence.
2. Copy of your passport.
3. Two recent passport size photographs.
4. The fee.
5. Muhtars letter, confirming you own property/rent in his area.
The above are exactly and all I took (with the completed application form) - as did my (under 60) friends....
- "owning/renting" - not residency.... but to make sure, don't ask here, ask at the licencing office....

Yes that is correct, but if you want up to date information on any matter regarding driving then the 'oracle' here is Trevor Hughes who works for Capital Insurance and often posts on Cypruscene and the TFR Facebook page. His e-mail address is: trevorhughes329@gmail.com.

Jofra you must have had a good day for officialdom, my wife is 54, we tried to get hers through without residency, no chance.
Things change frequently here but as it stands I believe you need to be 60+ for a DL without residency including all the docs necessary.

Evidently so; my first link dated back to last July - apparently CyprusScene were not up to date, while the licence office were also not up to date in September when we all applied....Bogaz58 wrote:Jofra you must have had a good day for officialdom...
On the BRS site (about a third down the page, "Initial TRNC Driving Licence Documentation."), the info appears more recent - previously (when I - and especially my under 60 friends - applied) there was no age differentiation; rather ownership or long-term rental....

Re: Getting a TRNC driving licence
Just a quick word of warning. Check to make sure all of your groups have been included on the licence. Mine was missing motorcycle and when I came to buy one it was noticed by the salesman. Luckily it was rectified but I didn't know because I couldn't tell by looking. Fortunately for me the people who did the paperwork for my application sorted it out.

Re: Getting a TRNC driving licence
It is all a bit confusing for a newbie (been living here 6 weeks now - Just turned 59)
I will be leaving TRNC at least once for a few days within every 90 days
Will I still be ok on my UK Driving licence or do I have to get a Turkish one?

Never fear ThePresident. You will get dottier as time goes by and you get older. THEN suddenly all seems to make sense!!

Re: Getting a TRNC driving licence
Fairly sure that it's 90 days total in one year, so I would say you need a trnc licence.
