Vodafone "HELP"

For the past three years or so I have had a Vodafone big value bundle. This was used on a simple DORO clam phone. Have been able to use the phone in UK and throughout Vodafone's Euro zone without any issues, of course only calls in and out and texts which is all I really needed. My son suggested I upgrade to an I Phone (to become more techy). He gave me his old Apple I phone 5 and as I was in UK, visited the Vodafone store and had a new SIM inserted using the old number. Everything worked fine whilst in UK but took a short break to Spain which is where the problem started. I was able to receive and send Texts, E mails messages etc but only able to receive calls. Could not phone out. On my return I contacted Vodafone who were able to resolve the issue and whilst in UK everything worked fine. On returning to Cyprus last Monday I switched on my phone and the same issue arose. I was unable to phone Vodafone so my son initiated the call from UK and they called me. For the past week they have been trying to resolve the issue. I have tried everything they have suggested and at each stage it has proved fruitless. After each attempt I am told they are pushing the issue further up the technical trail. I must now be with the CEO. I am willing to give them one more try before asking my son to send out a new SIM for my old phone.

The question I have for board members is, has anyone else had the same issue? If so was it resolved and how?

A bit long winded I know but needed to put over the whole picture. Any help gratefully received.

Thanks in advance

I use Vodafone when in Cyprus. It was working fine and then on one visit, my data stopped working. Phone calls and text messages were fine.

I used the Vodafone app on my i phone to contact them whilst connected to WiFi and they talked me though some setting changes. Worked fine after that.

I think they said it was something to do with changing my SIM card to other network operators. I now press cancel when it comes up ‘update carrier settings’.

I was seriously considering registering another another number with Telsim ( their shops continually go on about their associations with Vodaphone) We live in TRNC, but reading about the continual problems people are having with Vodaphone, I am having second thoughts.

Sophie, this is the only issue I have had in over 3 years. Very satisfied with my U.K. £5 big value bundle. Get more than sufficient texts, data and calls for my needs anywhere in there Euro zone and anything I don’t use each month is carried over. Just this issue I can’t sort.

How strange. I guess if the Vodafone techies cannot help you, I don’t think anything I suggest would be of use.

You can always use WhatsApp / FB / SC for calls to contacts, but not much use for other calls.

I always find Vodafone very good. As someone who spends a lot of time going from north to south and vice versa when on holiday here, Vodafone is very useful.

Good luck.

As your problems started with this handset and SIM in Spain, I think it's fair to assume the problem is not the local network but with how your phone is registered at your UK home base... maybe the setting doesn't like the SIM being in a different IMEI. Have you tried using someone else's phone with your SIM? I have never owned and have no intention of ever owning an Apple phone but I have heard of similar issues caused by the Apple security features and settings that are aimed at making the use of stolen handsets taken abroad problematic.... Long story short your proposed solution would prove the point if the only thing you change is the handset and the problem goes away.

Thanks for your post Groucho. Tried that on my old phone. Still same issue. As I mentioned in my original post never had a problem before. Any suggestions thankfully received though.

When you cold boot your phone (switch off, remove battery replace and start-up) what network does your phone say it's connected to? You may need to change from automatic to manual selection...

Hi again Groucho. Connected to Vodafone. Their techno’s suggested this from the beginning, doesn’t work on any of the available networks including, by the way south side, when I tried Friday last week. It’s a mystery but Vodafone tell me they are still working on it. Thanks for your suggestion though.
