Hi

On http://www.haberkktc.com/haber/rekor-yagis-52999.html it writes that the rainfall for the last 24 hrs has been the most ever recorded in Boğaz (Girne's Boğaz, that is). Here are some of the figures:
Boğaz 19cm
Güzelyurt 10.1cm
Girne 10cm
Çamlibel 7.2cm
Alsancak 4cm

According to http://www.haberkktc.com/haber/guzelyur ... 52998.html a bridge in Yılmazköy (that's a town about 10km from Lapta, but on the other side of the mountains) has collapsed. Also major roads, including both directions of the Lefkoşa-Güzelyurt road have been closed (at least they were overnight)

None of us would want to wish ill-will to anyone, but the fact that the Girne house of the former president, Mehmet Ali Talat, is also under water might help in getting the authorities to realise that work needs to be done on drainage in Girne.
(Source: http://www.haberkktc.com/haber/talatin- ... 52996.html )

It is very likely that schools (at least those in the Girne area) will be closed on Friday. The Ministry of Education has not yet made a decision on this. In any case, before sending your child to school, it would be advisable to check with someone.

We came back from Lefkosa yesterday just after 15.00 it did not start raining until we were nearly at the Bogaz camera then all hell let loose! The road up the mountain was a raging torrent whipping up kerbs & rocks & it was hailing I have been driving for 45 years & it was the worst conditions I have ever seen we were lucky to get through.
I saw a girl later on she had left Lefkosa at 15.00 & reached Ozankoy at 17.40 I would think the road must have closed behind us.
Today our pool is brown & we have a raging torrent in the ravine behind us but hopefully we should have water next summer!

Ozankoys we got caught a bit later, managed to get off the road and tried going up by K-Pet garage but it was just as bad, we were eventually turned back after a JCB got through. We drove back down to Lefkosa as the way to Girne was blocked, the road to Famagusta was nose to tail, drove up to Dikmen and over to Tashkent and back down to Famagusta road. The rain that fell when we were driving between Dikmen and Tashkent was about the heaviest we've driven in but as we left Tashkent the road was dry all the way down to the dual carriageway and all the way back up to Besparmak restaurant then the rain started again. At the power station there was, what looked to be, an electricity cable down across the road which everyone was driving over. That may explain the power cut we had until 8.30pm last night.

We came to a standstill just before the Aksoy furniture store heading towards Bogazkoy about 16.45. There was a river flowing towards Lefkosia with all the water flowing off the fields, on the south bound carriagway.

Could not believe all the rubble on the road that had been washed from the verges. Plus it looked as if the Belidiye had been pruning all the trees on verges going north and they blocked the inside lane going north.

It was 2 lanes, slow moving all the way to the by pass roundabout, by pass closed at that point so you can imagine all the traffic going en masse down to Girne.

Friend we had been visiting in Lefkosia phoned about 19.00 to ask we got home OK cos her father told her that there had been the heaviest downfall in memory.

Will add that every one we saw drove impecably with nobody trying to do stupid things, just an orderly procession.

my car broke down in ozankoy! finally got a lift to bellapais to be greeted by a river gushing down the steps to irinis gardens - the amount of water and force of water was amazing! the speed and the force was scarey and then the noise of it poring into the ravine made us think it was chucking down with rain again! of course all that water had to come out somewhere and ozankoy was the place! whow!

Deniz, hope your BF is successful, we have had a similar problem in our place for 3 years have given up trying to get the builder to fix it and was doing some home repairs but halfway through this lot started, well the rain at the beginning of the month which ruined my work and have been unable to get it dry enough to continue since.
Yes parts of the UK had it bad with a lot more forecast, my 92 year old Mother is pretty much cut off and that has never happened before in her lifetime and she has lived in the same house since 1962 and same village since 1945 when she came home from the war.

I thought my roof was coming off yesterday the thunder was so close. Apparently a thunderbolt caused the power cut in Catalkoy yesterday.

It was very impressive, some of those thunder reports were better than standing by a 6inch gun going off, my wife nearly jumped out of her skin a couple of times and didn't let go of me all evening, did we get the best of it in Catalkoy? Some of it was right overhead and a fantastic light show
