Pruning of young plum tree

Does anyone know when to prune a young (possibly 3/4 years old) plum tree? It is fruiting really well at present this year but do not want it to get out of control. I know about silver leaf disease, but I think the pruning in North Cyprus is possibly at a different time of year to UK??? I have also put this into the correct category, Gardening, but unsure how often people look at that!

There is a wealth of information in this little book, on plums and every other fruit tree that you will find in Cyprus.
Normally available at Deniz Plaza I believe.
ISBN 978-9963-8377-8-6 (A Cyprus Mail Publication)

Patricia and her husband Howard attend our Gardener's Forum on the last Thursday of every month. Anyone can attend and ask any of our gurus anything about gardens. Its at The Courtyard in Karakum at 10.30 am. Costs nothing but please support our venue and buy a drink!

That's right there are other larger branches - just Google and you'll find which one is nearest you...
I must say that the prospect of quizzing Patricia Jordan is appealing!
