Post office blaming new Istanbul airport for long delays with post

Anyone else had similar bad postal service recently?

Bollocks, it works the other way here also...friggin hopeless

This theme of poor postal service has been ongoing for decades.

Jock1 no better the other way at the moment either.
Two bank keypads and a letter from UK pensions Department have not arrived here after two months.
I always post from the south now. They usually get to the UK in three days.

A watch was sent to me from England to here. As it was sent by registered mail I could easily follow its way, see attached extract. Was sent from the UK to Istanbul on May 10 and only arrived at Lefkosa on May 30, with other words, big delay at Istanbul Airport. The following delay in Girne was due to Bayram which of course is ok. At least it arrived in perfect condition, no customs involved. In previous cases, the procedure in Istanbul took just 2-4 days.

We find that making sure the Post Code is used, tends to speed things up a bit, but not guaranteed by any means. The biggest hold up in our case lately tends to be between Lefkosa and Girne.

I find that paying a few TL extra to send a letter by Registered/Recorded mail ensures it gets there ok....but it can take up to 3 weeks!

We must have been lucky then. Last year a registered/recorded (not registered in the way that we would consider registered, but better than nothing) took 10 days earlier this year.

My wife had a letter today from a friend in UK - only took six and a half weeks - amazing speed!!!!!

Yes I have experienced Registered post from Karaoglanoglu Post Office to UK taking 10 days also, but it has taken longer sometimes.

I am curious as to why you do not consider the system "Registered" as you know it!
Here you receive a copy of the number of the Registered sticker attached to the envelope and the details are entered on the computer system. Afterwards you can use the number to track the progress of the item online right up to delivery.

My mail was delivered to the addressee in the UK today
Some 4 weeks plus to get there

I have previously tried registered post but the tracking stopped once the mail left Cyprus for Istanbul so from my point of view a waste of time - It was noted on that occasion that the mail left Girne to go to Lefkosa and then back to Girne for some reason and it was over a week before the post left the island so clearly inefficiencies in Cyprus and Turkey.

The postal service here is a waste of time and effort get yourself a post box in the south. I never use the post here these days and haven't done for years. €35 a year I think well worth it.
