It was his wish to be a private family only funeral which was only found out when entering his flat today .
Sorry for the confusion.

Don't know the gentleman, but RIP...
"It was his wish to be a private family only funeral..." - Apparently a lack of information in this case, but I wonder how often a person's clearly specified wishes regarding their own funeral are totally and deliberately ignored by family, relatives, and etc. - I'm sure mine will be disregarded....

Jofra, Im sure it happens times without number. Not always deliberately but because wishes are not found for long after the deceased has been buried and when people are clearing out a house. In other cases, when the deceased has set out wishes that are just not logistically possible or totally off the scale financially. At least these wishes were found in time. RIP.

Funerals are for the benefit of the mourners - be they family or friends - not the deceased.
Whilst you would wish to respect any (known) wishes of the departed, at the end of the day it doesn’t matter to them!

Ooooooh NO! I've warned my lot if they don't do as I've asked then then I'll come back and haunt them. When a picture falls off the wall or doors rattle and burst wide open, it'll be me!!!

I'm glad that it was you who suggested the similarity and not me, 'cos I'm a coward!

KC, you become wiser as you get older, but as for Mowgli597, mmm, I'll have to remember that. To the family of John Painter, I'm sure we all apologise for the levity and hope neither yourselves or John have been offended.

Sophie, you're quite right - I did lose track of the purpose of the thread, - I also hope that we haven't caused offence and offer my condolences.

John was a very good friend of mine, loved his cricket ,football and travelling he had a very dry sense of humour
And will be pleased his last request has had the effect it has it's what he would have wanted.
He wasn't your ordinary run of the mill guy he was ...........DIFFERENT !!!!!! With a fecking big D
as the Irish would say. He will be laughing his head off.
