We have family members coming to stay next week. If we have a medical emergency with any of the children, which is the best hospital to go to, Girne area?
I have posted this in the medical section as well but don't know if I would get as many responses as I will here.

Re: emergency medical treatment for a chid
The state hospital in Girne is excellent have had my son their twice when he was young , my nephew 5 years ago and my 2 year old grandaughter a few months ago.
Each of these occassions was an emergency and we were seen with 5 minutes, saw a doctor within 10 minutes and a consultant within 20 minutes. Treatment was started immediately and staff highly professional at all times and the cleanliness spotless which would put any NHS hospital to shame.
The NHS should send staff on secondment to Cyprus to see how it should and can be done.

I can't offer experience of other hospitals, but in April my wife was seriously ill; I took her first to Dr Fuat NEU hospital (east of Girne, behind the new Metropol supermarket) and she was examined/treated immediately - as the appropriate (lung/pulmonary) specialist was not "on-site", she was immediately transferred to the NEU hospital at Lefkosa - both hospitals were excellent.
A friend (TC) has had various family in Lefkosa NEU over the years (one terminal) and also has nothing but praise for their staff, facilities and etc.

I agree the state hospital is excellent for emergencies we have been impressed on several occasions.
There is also the issue of medical insurance if you want to claim back any expenses, your insurer would expect you to use State facilities rather than straight to private.

Good to know that people have had a good experience at the state hospital but that was not my experience. My wife had a badly broken leg, took her to the state hospital, was xrayed and told that there was nothing wrong and to go home and rest. After a dreadful eleven days took her to the Kamalolu ( excuse the spelling) in town. The surgeon was brilliant and recognised even without the xray that there was a serious problem. Immediate surgery and the fitting of a metal plate. We know she was lucky not to loose her leg.

My daughter and 10 week old grandson and her husband came here from Australia for 7 months. We took them to the Medical Port hospital for all their needs for our baby grandson. Wonderful Paediatrician who speaks English, had any vaccinations done and the A and E was great for him. Thoroughly recommend this hospital. They were not expensive and really good blood lab. Medical Port is on the Bella Pais road. My daughter was originally going to have her baby here, but complications set in so she had to stay in Australia, but the Gynaecologist Dr Jinomer recommended this hospital to us and they are really good
