Thank you for moving my post from here to “Motors”. Now anyone looking for information regarding car exhaust systems knows where to find it.

After a quick thought, I suspect that's where I would have browsed.

Then you would have been wrong, because I never posted it there to start with! Much the same as many other posts that hang around on the "The Kibkom North Cyprus Forum" for ages but never get moved, I thought it was a good place to put it to start with and then request it be moved at a later date - but it moved so rapidly I never got the chance.
So just for fun - where would you expect to find "Erdeners Garage" then? Go on, have a quick thought and look under "Motors" - lol.

Waddo,
Couldent agree more! I posted an urgent request for advise about my pool, after a very short time it was moved to the pool section, result, no, hardly any views! I dont go on here and think, I will just visit all the sections to see if anyone needs help, I know you cant please everyone but it gets a real pain when you need help then it gets buried, OK though if you need a new car!!

Apologies to those who think we move posts to quickly, also apologies to those who think we take to long. We have had comments on both.
However; if you click the Active Topics link it does bring up all of the most recently posted and some may say most pertinent topics. Each time a topic gets a response it’s bounced back up the active topics list. A quick check of the first page of the Active topics at 17:15hrs today showed that the last topic in the list was posted on Fri 12 July - 5 days ago. You can of course also select how far back you want to view active topics from just 1 day to 1 year.
It just goes to show you cannot please everyone.

I saw your post (although couldn’t help with an answer) because the only things I ever use on the Forum are “View active topics” and “Search” (the main one at the top of the screen which searches the whole forum). So as well as seeing the original I’ve just read all the replies to your post.
I guess since I check the Forum several times a day I don’t miss anything which may be of interest to me. But I rarely if ever use the section titles or the main Board index.

It was an epiphany for me when someone posted about the 'view unread posts' button - now, each time I log in I click this straight away, and only see what has changed since my last visit - it becomes irrelevant which section posts are in - I can then select which ones to click or ignore - and they disappear off the list as I read, so i know when i've caught up.

It is not the speed of the movement it is the lack of notification that is the problem. Of course all of us can click on the Active Topics link, so why not just do away with all the other links, then we can all search for what we want on a single link? Too hard to control that and people like to have things in order - mainly, of course there are those who like to live in disorder just for the hell of it. Some of the people some of the time never all of the time springs to mind.
Let me ask a question or two.
When you move a topic post from one topic to another do you simply click and move or do you have to work at it to shift it from on part of the system to another?
Is it possible to leave the original title of the Post behind and simply add it's new destination to the title - I.E. Thank you - MOVED TO SPORT at least everyone would know it then exists.
Example - LEGENDS OF TROY etc, posted twice just to be sure, to be sure!!!
It is not an easy task, I know from years of experience but just out of FUN, where will you put my next post called WHERE?

Hi
When I move a topic I firstly have to decide which part of the forum the topic should be moved to, sometimes it’s obvious where it should be and other times it could be open to debate.......then I select the topic to be moved......then select move topic......then search the different sections and find the area the topic is to be moved to.....(There is an option to leave shadow topic in place in original area but I am not aware of any of the mods doing this....personally I think it would just clog up the forum and make it confusing. Just a personal opinion.) Finally there is a verification question which basically asks are you sure you want to move topic to new forum. Select yes and topic is moved.
As for your post entitled “WHERE”......I just deleted it.
Not really.

I've put in Jokes.
Can we now get back to some form of normality. This subject has come up many times in the past and there is absolutely no solution to making "everyone" content with the forum layout. If there was a solution, then I would have implemented it long ago. The current layout was requested from the start, along with selection of colours, hot topics, calendar, birthdays and and and.... I have done what members had initially asked for and may be because it is what it is today, it continues to see tomorrow. Co-operation from members is much appreciated. Members that would like their thread to be prominent, then the Sticky and Global is there for members to use. Try it.

I go one step further than that -
I have a shortcut on my Bookmarks toolbar which takes me straight to
View unread posts, and as I never actually Log Out, I never need to Log Back In... I use that link every time that I want to see what's being posted on the forum - I never open the General' section at all.
After I've opened and read the posts that look interesting (to me!), I click on the
View unread posts link again, just to see if anything interesting has been added while I was reading/answering posts, and then, if there's nothing new that grabs my attention, I click on
'Board index', and then on
'Mark forums read' which means that only 'Brand New' posts will be displayed the next time that I click on my
View unread posts link - unless someone has added something to one of the threads, of course...
I don't think that I've ever searched by clicking on any of the alphabetically arranged links to the separate sections, - if I want to find posts on a particular topic, I normally just use the 'search box' at the top left corner of the page, and provided that you enter a consise, logical search term, it will display everything that you need.
Occasionally, where I think that I remember who posted on a particular topicc, I might go to
that member's profile page and click on
'search user's posts' which displays
every post that that member has ever posted, and then use the search box immediately above the displayed posts (the one labelled 'search these results' - not the one at the top left corner of the page) and enter my desired search term - say Revolut, which then displays
every single post that the member has ever posted which includes that search term.
This way, I can find posts on any subject in a matter of seconds, without going to a particular section and having to read through all of the posts in that section to find what I'm looking for...
That's why I think that the separate sections are a waste of space, and Mod's time
However, it's Soner's forum, and if he likes it that way, then that's the way that it will be!
In the example above, I used
erol as the member, and
revolut as the search term, purely to illustrate the principle, but it does work with any member and any search term

Lost me in paragraph 2 Keith!
But pleased to read how it works for you.
For me, I also never log out but return to the forum a few times each day. I will stick with scrolling down the active topics as this covers everything for me. Have to say anything more would be a challenge!
I am sure there are many different ways members use the forum which then of course makes it especially difficult when trying to please everyone.

Keith, that is the advanced way of using the forum, I have also used all of the links you have suggested. It just goes to show, that the more you use the forum the more you understand its format and use it in the best possible way suitable to you. Sometimes the problem lies with people having a fear to continuously click on links that they have never clicked on before, in thinking that something will go wrong. This only restricts them from getting the best out of the forum's functionality.
Anyway, I may now need to get more adverts up on to the Active topics incase everyone stops using the individual categories.
