How things have changed

We have been coming to the TRNC since 1999 and how things have altered. However it seems change has accelerated since we last visited 2 years ago. Huge blocks of flats being built in Kyrenia especially 3 huge blocks about 10 stories high just in front of where we used to live in Upper Kyrenia. Every ones view spoilt and just not in keeping with the area. Who is going to live in all these new homes?
Secondly, the traffic which seems to have increased tremendously especially on the Lapta main road.
Finally the small hotels seem very quiet. We were in a lovely 3 star hotel where we have stayed previously and over half the rooms were empty. This being in school holidays. One man had just moved to our hotel because there were only a couple of people in the hotel where he was staying and , as he was on his own he wanted company. The last time we came out our Tour operator used a bus to ferry people from the airport. This time we were the only people off the Manchester flight going to our area. All very sad
However, as usual we loved the place and the friendly people

This must be the unregulated immigration that the British Residents Society are talking about. However I think you'll find most of these flats in and around Girne are sold to mainland Turks and Russians. The idea of thousands of UK expats coming here because of the relaxed immigration rules is a myth. And yes the traffic is much worse as a consequence which must put off tourists.
