I know that most people are completely dogged out, but a puppy turned up on our doorstep this morning. She looks like a black and white spaniel around 6 weeks old. We'd keep her gladly, but we have 2 dogs already and our house is small.

Oh dear, its so tempting, this is just like a photo I have of one of mine when he was a puppy. In fact if my spaniel had not been neutered, I would be asking him a few hard questions about what he had been up to! But three dogs is really more than enough for one person.

If it will help encourage anyone, mine has grown up to be a really beautiful spaniel and one of the kindest and best natured dogs I have ever known. And if you are thinking of getting a dog, it is worth putting up with the puddles and chewing for a few weeks, to have a friend whom you have trained yourself to your ways and who will always trust you if you treat him well, rather than an older dog who may need breaking of bad habits and be traumatised by bad treatment.

Agree entirely Rambling Rose. once upon a time Alan wanted a spaniel, but we have Dudu and there is no room for another dog. Alan is not really a dog lover, so we have a large enough menagerie now but most spaniels are lovely natured creatures, and as you rightly say, to have one this young to train would be a great joy . Just wish I could...... but surely someone out there can love it and give it a home. Poor little thing. Too young to be away form its mother anyway, ireckon.

I'm happy to report that Cookie has a new mummy who I know will take good care of her. Even though we'd only had her a few days, i cried all the way home after saying goodbye.

Brilliant! A happy ending for this little chappie. Such good news warms the heart.
