House numbers???

Can anyone explain why properties, (i assume all of them), have 2 numbers please? IIRC, the estate agent said one is issued by the Municipality and one is issued by, (i think), Land Registry??? But that's as far as he got. I'm intrigued and naturally confused.

When we moved into our house it was plot 5, so became number 5 and the name of the street was chosen by the builder. In 2010(?) there was a census and the local council renamed a lot of the streets, I guess because the 'chosen' street names were not in keeping with the local area and they also renumbered the houses so now we are no. 9. The land registry knows it as plot 5 but our postal address is no. 9. Same thing happened when we lived in Alsancak in 2005/6. Must be due another census soon, every 10 years, so who knows what'll happen then...

Hmm, weird. Ours has a Brass number on the door and a number on a blue square screwed to the wall. No doubt all will become clear at some stage, (clear as mud).

Our estate house number was 33. Along came the Bele pre-census, and re-numbered both streets/houses using cheap blue metal plates with white numbering. Sadly, they missed one house in one street, so every house from number five to twenty seven is incorrectly numbered. Hey ho, "' tis Cyprus my friend. "

Your Postal Address is No: XX xxxx - this is the number to use when arranging deliveries, addressing mail, or telling visitors where you live.
The Plot no on the Builder's plan was no X.
The plot number is probably shown on the Koçan (Title Deed) - this may, or may not, agree with the builder's designation.
Builders usually start at one end, and number the plots sequentially - 1,2,3, etc.
The Belediye usually follow the 'English System' of numbering the left hand side of the street 1,3,5, ... and the right hand side 2,4,6, and so on.

The funniest thing is that even though the Belediye renamed and renumbered our street, they still don't know where we are. We are located by a combination of our proximity to a big development nearby and our builder's name!
BTW Post doesn't get delivered in Esentepe , you can either rent a post box (50TL PA) and have PK no. in your postal address or pick up your post from the post office. The former means you can pick up post anytime, the latter means you can only collect when the post office is open (not always the advertised hours). Also post can take weeks to arrive.

You can pick up your post from your local Post Office at any time of the day or night. Just ask and pay for for a PO Box. I think ours costs roughly 50tl a year. The system works more or less and if you have a recorded delivery or a parcel, then the PO man will stick a note in your box but then you do have to wait until the office is open. There are some people lucky enough to actually have delivered mail within a fairly small boundary of their post office. Never been that lucky myself. We have found it does help a bit to use the Post Code in your address, but its no guarantee.

Ha ha not surprised you are confused. Our house was always No. 7, then we had the census and a blue plaque was put on our wall stating 7-2. The house opposite became number 7, so they got all our post. You have to go by the blue plaque number!

When we bought in 2003 we were 3, Fikri Terkan villas, then came the census and we got a street name and the number 7. 2/3 years down the line and coming back from the UK realised a plaque had been put up with a completely different street name although it's still shown on Google Earth as the old name. Confused you will be, but this is Cyprus.
