Do the duty free shops at Larnaca airport accept sterling?

They did in June but prefer Euros. Watch it though as some will try it on with the change if they see you're in a hurry.

They do accept GBP but be prepared to get an exchange rate conversion from Euro to GBP at a lower rate by the retailer.

They are in it to make money even on the exchange rates.

if you pay by Card , then always insist on paying in the local currency......this for me is a rule of thumb in most countries when travelling.

Your Bank will always give you better rates than the shop / retailer when converting...…….obviously the Bank will also charge a small cash processing fee.
