Border checks

Went through yesterday at around 1pm. Never have I seen so many border checks in 15 years . Every car without exception checked inside in every compartment you can think of .the customs officers which were at least 6 of them decided that you can only bring personal items. He stated clothing and food . Nothing furniture based or electrical.
Asked for a more itemized or definitive list . Not a response.
Hence the fine for a non furniture or electrical barbeque.
No problem with the fine or tax just wish they would be more definitive with their judgement

They were doing checks at the Metahan crossing point yesterday but our car wasnt checked.
We were stopped for a vehicle document check at the Girne end of the by pass. Let us go when we spoke in English. They must know expats obey the law!
Sure sign that the cooler weather is here when the police are out and about doing checks.

We crossed at Metehan last week and there were checks from TRNC into RoC - the GC customs were even looking, on one car, in the spare tyre compartment and another taxi - all the passengers were out as was their luggage.

I was stopped a couple of weeks ago just past the Greek side insurance booths. They looked at my passport and made a note of the VIN number of my car. One of them rang somebody up to check this out. They were happy to let me go but said they were looking for stolen cars that had been brought into the north and re-registered there. They only, on the day, seemed to be stopping certain makes and models.
