No Water Dogankoy. Check your tank levels.

Day four of no water in Dogankoy. Phoned up the help line on Tuesday to be told water will be on tomorrow (Wednesday). Wednesday we ordered a tanker, as the water did not come back on. Thursday went to the Mukthar's office, the lady in there did not know what the problem was or when it would be back on. She gave us a mobile phone number to ring, we rung it several times and no answer. Thursday we rang the help line again to be told it would be back on this evening, really? Today spoke to the Mukthar apparently it is a big problem affecting all of Dogankoy but will be back on today. Our neighbour has just paid their bill in Girne, to be told big problem with main pump supplying all of Girne (our friends in Girne have water) and will be back on on Monday? I understand problems and breakdowns of equipment happens, but if they could just tell the truth and say it will be off for five days then fine, at least we can plan ahead. Just awaiting another tanker delivery. So if you live in Dogankoy, check your water tank levels.

We are on the border of Ozankoy, in Bellapais, and have been having problems for several months now. It is off more than it is on, rarely do we have decent pressure. When it is on, it is usually just a weak trickle, so no watering the garden. Various excuses are given but no solutions. There is a water leak just up the road where some houses are being worked on. It has been leaking for several months now, and has been reported, but again, nothing is done. Surely mains water should be a basic human right, but it seems although we have it flowing from Turkey, it is not being managed properly here.

I hope you're not paying for your tankers of water? When we've had a problem in Alsancak I was told by the Belediyesi to phone them if I needed a tanker and they would deliver for free. Apparently it's the law!

I was not aware of that, We have paid for two tankers, I will try that next time, as I dont think the water will be back on anytime soon. Then again I may be proven wrong!

Sadly, the TRNC Government devolved the distribution of drinking water to individual municipalities to manage, as confirmed by the Ombudswoman recently. Ergo, local mayors can do what they want (or not), when they want (or not), at what cost they state (over 7.5+K TL in Esentepe) and individuals have no say or right of appeal. Why the State did not manage this vital commodity as it does fuel, beggars belief.

Tom steel, yep you are right, it is all down to mis-management.... bet the hotels and casinos don't go short, nor the municipality workers....

I cannot state this as fact, however, my pool cleaner's wife works for Esentepe Belideye and the work force have, allegedly, not been paid for eight months. Why do they continue to work, threats!
