Some of you may have seen the article in Cyprus Today about the Sunflower Sensations Calendar (loosely based on the Famous Calendar Girls!) For those that didn't see it, a group of wrinkly expats (!!) got together and for a bit of fun decided to have a sunflower growing competition. In a moment of madness (or several) we decided it would be a good idea to try and raise some money for the NCCCT, so here it is..............a once in a lifetime chance to be the proud owner of the very limited edition of the Sunflower Sensations 2013 calendar. The calendar features photographs of the team members, with strategically placed Sunflowers.....or other props, to hide their modesty, although for some it is more difficult than others. It is to be auctioned to raise funds, at the NCCCT coffee morning at Pia Bella this coming Saturday from 11.00 am. Telephone bids are more than welcome.

Also on offer are the award winning Sensational Seeds......so you can grown your own humungous sunflowers.......you can use the seeds from the flowers you grow to keep our little feathered friends nicely rotund......

The seeds are priced at 3 lira per pack, or 2 packs for 5 lira.....so, have your own sunflower growing competition.......it's fun, honest, and you don't have to bare all at the end of it!!!! ALL of the proceeds, every last kurus, will go to the worthy coffers of NCCCT, so please come along and meet some of the idiots who bared all (almost) for a very good cause.

Don't forget to come along to the Coffee Morning and see the Sunflower Sensations!! Children will love seeing how quickly the seeds grow into plants up to (or over) 2 metres high, with wonderful cheerful flowers. Plant beginning of April and once they come through you can practically see them grow.....have fun measuring to see how they have grown overnight. By end of June they have grown into monsters......if you have treated them to a little TLC! So, hope to see lots of you there, doing your bit for the Charity.

very pleased to say that the auction of the Sunflower Sensations (Calendar Ghouls) calendar made the amazing amount of 100 TL......sale of the seeds gave us over 300 TL which was equally amazing and many thanks to everyone that helped us raise this amount.....and understood the point of it all......a few seeds grow into a lot of good.......thank you thank you thank you and hope to do the same next year.....on a different theme......not sure what yet, but watch this space....

Footnote.......anyone who has lost someone to this dreadful illness will appreciate all the work that NCCCT does in raising the funds to help. I know, I lost someone.....

I was there, bought some sunflower seeds, raffle tickets etc etc, you are all very good salespersons.

It was obvious that everyone had worked very hard in organising the event.

You all deserve a pat on the back and a BIG THANK YOU, from all of us.

A really big thank you to everyone that bought our seeds.....we are all a bit bonkers, but hey, raised a lot of money, so thanks to everyone.....a few tips on how to get the huge sunflowers....

Plant late March, early April, best in compost....plant 2 seeds together....in spaces 6 inches apart.....they should come through in about 7 days or so.....take out the smaller of the two and maybe plant elsewhere.....try to water daily, but every couple of days is fine. Watch them grow.....then 90 days later you should have some wonderful flowers in your garden.....best in a very sunny spot and they will follow the sun and turn their faces towards it.
