Thsi topic has been posted on many times but in lgc the tourism minister claimed that in a short time this problem would be overcome in relation having to travel to turkey from the uk. I do remember seeing somewhere in the uk that after brexit there would be direct flights i cant remember the exact context but it was a uk source.

In the report the minister appears very confident . Im very sceptical of both the minister and/or the accuracy of lgc. It would be very welcome if it transpires.

Little if anything to do with Brexit - "direct" as not touching down in Turkey is apparently a matter of international law, probably in line with UN resolutions etc. As long ago as 2005 Britain was talking of getting "direct" flights by means of a legality - note the reference to charter flights....
(If it were Brexit/EU, why don't non-EU countries e.g. Russia have direct flights?)

I mention brexit because although i cant remember the article i read about direct flight it was definately in relation to brexit and that once the uk had left the eu they can act on their own . Im fully aware if the international rules im no expert on them though . If i could find the article i would post it but i doubt it would clarify any legsilation points . I think it was a pro trnc uk mp.

I read that article as referring to being able to stay on the plane rather than changing planes in Turkey (security improvements etc)

Direct flights will only be allowed if the UN recommends it - which will need a Cyprus settlement.

I cant find the article but i did find this one
https://www.politico.eu/article/uk-coul ... rn-cyprus/

If you read it seems there may be a legal way to circumvent the rules for chartered flights once out of the eu the u k has less reasons to appease cyprus and honor some if its broken pledges after the annan plan.

The Chicago convention allows only the recognised government of a country to nominate an international airport.
I.e unless the TRNC becomes recognised there will not be direct flights.

MVP I agree totally. On top of that the Airline Pilots Unions said years ago that they would not allow their pilots to land in an unrecognised country, so we're dammed if we do and dammed if we don't, sort of thing!

Before i moved here, i did a lot of research, a fair bit on the now defunked Cyprus 44 ....

On there is a post from about 13 years ago......

A couple were flying to the TRNC to look at properties, as they were thinking of buying ......

Already been warned that "the land has been stolen at gun point" and "you'll never get proper recognised deeds" .... but went anyway ..

How lucky they were - on the plane they sit next to a guy who's an estate agent and knows everything about the place !......

The lady expresses her concern that there are no direct flights - To which the agent replies "funnily enough - we've just had the nod that direct flights will start at the end of the year" ...... and it wont be long before Easyjet will be doing flights for 29 quid...

He then goes on to say "there has never been a better time to buy in the TRNC - in the next 12 months, the north and south will come to agreements, all the problems will be solved, TRNC can then join the EU - and property prices will TRIPPLE" ......

Can you guess what really happened when they bought ?
