If so, what is the best way to draw cash from TRNC ATM's to avoid any major charges.

Not a direct response to your query, but I have a Revolut, Starling, and Monzo account, and have found that a combination of the first two means I don't use the latter - Monzo's fee-free overseas cash withdrawals being limited to £200 in any 30-day period is too restrictive.

Yes we have a Monzo card. You are allowed £200 cash withdrawals (without charge) per month. Although trying to find a cash point in TRNC that doesn’t charge is another matter!!!
We have used it for the past year in TRNC and found it great value. Often getting much better rates than the normal rates.

Thanks walesforever. Did a shop at Sah today and got exchange rate of 7.70tl (actual GBP/TRY rate at time 7.725), so that was good. But wondering what is best way to draw out cash with minimum charges in TRNC, if that is at all possible.

Revolut is £200 per 30 days too and 2% on withdrawals over that. You can upgrade to a premium account for about £6.99 a month and that allows you £400 per month and unlimited cash transfers.
I guess the way to do it is use a combination of all these cards.

And to add to that, after reading alphamikes advice / comments on the atm charging thread, keep withdrawals to a maximum of 1500TL per day

I was looking at getting a starling account, I'm sure this was unlimited withdrawals from cash point machines?

Not unlimited, but more generous than Revolut or Monzo: You can make up to six cash withdrawals a day, totalling a max £300.

Hi Soner, i originally had Monzo and now have Starling too. As said above, Monzo is limited however i thought it was £300 in any rolling 30 day period. Or I might be getting the £300 from Starling which i think is their daily limit without charges. Of course the ATM operator will usually take their cut wherever they can. I do pre-load both cards when i come out just in case there are any problems with one of them so i always have enough for what i need on the other. I previously had a Post Office Money Card which is extremely user unfriendly at best and at worst, had rendered me unable to pay for dinner or petrol in a few cases years ago as the card would not be recognised even though it's Mastercard. Sometimes you can't avoid charges as some organisations will always try and make money out of people at every opportunity.

I would definitely recommend Starling over Monzo, however Starling's CS has recently started to slide. However, if you're looking for budget analysis or any other features (like get paid early for those who get paid from the UK via BACS) then Monzo would be good - Or, why not both?

No charge on Monzo for card payments, only cash, also consider transferwise

Monzo announced yesterday that cash withdrawals are totally free from EU countries, no mention of any limit. So whenever I pop over to South I guess it makes sense to withdraw from ATM there. I need to check out as there may be charges from the banks. £200 limit for free withdrawals in non EU counties remain the same.
