Apparently they are upgrading their system to be more efficient in the future. From Monday 2nd March the immigration department will be adopting a new system which will involve sending a sms to all applicants who submitted applications.

You will be allocated a specific appointment slot to complete your residency visa. If you attend at any other time or date its unlikely you will be dealt with.

Try and explain that to the builders/restaurant owners that turn up with 4/5/6 workers and after completing the process promptly take back all their passports.

So what about us 'Swallows' who may only be visiting for less than a month?

After all the confusion and frustration over getting residency surely it's better that they are trying to make it easier for applicants. Instead of moaning about it why not wait and see how it goes.

Try asking the Interior Ministry Solicitor who posts on Facebook - he'll be the only one that you'll get a meaningful response from...

Also what about the over 60,s that with uninterrupted residency could go direct to lefcosia ?

One step forward,10 steps back!

I welcome anything that simplifies and speeds up the system but hasn't this been tried and failed after a few weeks. I have a friend who went yesterday. She arrived at Lefkosia at 5.15am and had to give her name to a bloke sitting in a car waiting for early birds. She was number 11!! Anything has got to be an improvement on that method.

Like most ideas introduced here, this one doesn't appear to have had a lot of thought put into it - so I expect we shall see amendments in due course...
