What are the "best" household brand names?

Will probably be buying a new washing machine, fridge-freezer, kettle, mattress and a few other bits next week when we're out. I was wondering what are the more popular brand names people go for or avoid. For example in UK i'd buy Hotpoint then Samsung, Russell Hobbs, Dorma etc. I don't partake in a throw-away society and would never go into places and buy unrecognised brands bearing fake half price offers or "When it's gone, it's gone" signs.

I stand by my advice for aircon to a friend

house hold goods- Arcelik and Beko I have never had a problem with their after service even though others have and stated so on the forum, some houses I look after have machines over 15 years old and still they fix them. My Father's washing machine was purchased with the house back in 1987 and still going even though its now had 4 owners.

Mitsubishi is the best by far but wow the price

Arcilek and Beko - warranty is good I can never see them not being on the island, seem to be able to repair their goods

Vestel - Cheaper by far but everything we have purchased has only just survived the warranty and then been non repairable

Private Individuals - find out where the warranty is, we had some fitted purchased from the south, when they went wrong we were advised well they were a lot cheaper than you would of purchased here. Looking at the price difference back in 2006 and when they went wrong in 2008 they did very well!

They went for Beko and could not believe the quality service and the price was better than Arcelik

Blomberg by far the best, look at the guarantee they give.

I would look into aftersales availability of parts for whichever brand you choose. My personal experience is as follows:

Arcelik oven, hob and extractor 15 years old still going strong, original washing machine upgraded for larger drum but still worked fine. Now have Blomberg which is great.
Samsung TV lasted about 5 years then developed shadows on the screen. Vestel TV brilliant picture still after over 7 years.
Arcelik dishwasher still working as new after 12 years.
Bosch fridge freezer still as new after 14 years.

Friends had a Whirlpool American style fridge freezer which ended up being scrapped because they could not get parts.

Its Blomberg/Grundig every time for us. They have just honoured a three year guarantee after five years. However, it helps enormously when you buy from the same shop/store and let them do the explaining as to the problem. I have to say with stuff like this we rarely "shop around", for that very reason.
