HSBC ATM Charges

Have always used Turk bank atm to withdraw cash from my HSBC account free of charge - yesterday the atm advised that my bank would charge me for the transaction (3TL for 300TL). Obviously a change in policy ~ any one else experienced this? Is there another bank that I can withdraw cash from free of charges? Just saves going into town to HSBC!

Has any HSBC card holders noticed when drawing cash from the ATMs at Turkbank or Credit west, now have bank charges added ? .. Before the cash was processed it used to state "Your bank will not charge you for this transaction"
12.50TL charge for drawing 1000TL last week ..
How long have these charges been in operation .. Anyone know ?

I put this post on a thread on The Northern Cyprus BB .. Appears that you are charged on all transactions at non-HSBC ATMs ..

Have used Limassol Bank in Esentepe to withdraw up to 1000TL a couple of times. 5TL charge by HSBC each time, cheaper and definitely more convenient than driving into town and back. I believe if you are a Premier customer you don't pay the charges.

Hi folks I am a premier account holder and on my way to Lefkosa this morning I called in at Turk bankinKarakum and used theır ATM to make a cash withdrawal and was charged 3TL.This has been happening for over a week now and Whilst I am not a happy bunny about this it is a lot cheaper than making a special trip into Girne.
I would also point out that there interest rates paid on deposits are very poor and if they carry on like this they are going to lose a lot of customers.

Do HSBC charge for other banks using their ATM?

Do Turk Bank charge if you use Iktisatbank or Credit West card in there ATM?

What I am trying to ascertain is this a universal charge or something unique to HSBC customers? Maybe it is tightening the belt time and that the good times are over for ATM free charges.

We used to use Universal Bank in Catalkoy for withdrawals and it was free but that may be because we were Premier customers. When we were downgraded from Premier we started to get charged. There used to be a link from the accounts page, on internet banking, telling you what the charges for various transactions and ATM withdrawals from non-HSBC machines were but I can't find it now.

The message I would be charged came up at Turkbank .. 12.50TL for transaction ..
Drew money out at Credit West ATM .. No message & was charged 12.50TL on statement ..
Previously before I drew money it was always "Your bank won't charge for this transaction"
It won't happen again, as I can move my state pension to HSBC without it costing me a "bean" a trip to draw it out & deposit in Credit West every 3 months will suffice ..

HSBC have to charge to re-cope the 1.9 billion fine they got in the States for money laundering, only you users of HSBC will suffer and be penalised for their dishonesty, same for Barclays and their big fines for their dishonesty. Personally I would never use either bank and if I was a user then I would take my custom elsewhere.

My money is in ING and whenever I use an ATM, other than theirs, I get charged, but just one of the little joys of life, I just have to make sure I draw enough out to last me and they don't charge if I do my shopping with my card

I too noticed that Turkbank wanted to charge me 3tl for a previously free transaction (HSBC Premier customer).

Hot footed it down to HSBC today and queried this charge. Was told that this was a new policy unless you used the bank's own ATM. Expressed my displeasure at not being notified of the change and was told that not even the staff had been officially notified of the change. Very poor system of communication for a bank to admit to, makes me wonder what else they may not be telling us!!!!!

We are premier customers ~ and this is the first time we have been charged.

Does this mean a set fee of 3TL per withdrawal regardless of amount at Turk bank for premier customers, and free of charge at Grananti ? Any other banks foc?

I am an HSBC Premier account customer and was charged 12.50 tl by Limasol bank for with drawing 1000 tl. My friend is a TEB customer and was told on HSBC screen she would be charged 3 tl for a withdrawal, don't know the amount.
According to Julie in HSBC this started about a month ago.

I've always been most impressed with Garanti Bank, they haven't always been the the highest interest rates, but find them very good indeed particularly their 3 month bonds. Garanti Bank with 2 ATM machines outside (use the machine on the RHS if you want sterling) - next door to Deniz Plaza and another branch up the side road which leads to 1001 shop in Girne. There may be others but I don't know of them.

Thanks sophie ..
Not a million miles from HSBC .. Might as well go to HSBC in order not to incur a charge ..
At ATMs on the east side of Girne it costs to draw money at Turkbank & at Credit West ..

We were HSBC Premier account holders, and were being charged 15TL each, every month for the 'privilage'. Yes it did give us the option of a credit card, which we did not require, and some other things, which we did not use, we were not charged to withdraw or use our card in the shops, which we rarely ever do, so worked out it was cheaper to opt out of 'Premier' and become a bog standard account holder. Still go upstairs and see Julie, but 30TL per month is a bit of a rip off !! Think it best to check statments thoroughly and complain if you don't agree with something.

I think many of us joined up with HSBC because they had English speaking staff. Now many of the other banks have English speaking staff and provide a service that is wanted and not as Andrew comments on "you owe them a favour". They have rested on their laurels for too long, could not even be bothered to set up a secondary branch, especially with ATM, east and west of Girne.

I cannot understand why so many Brits still bank with HSBC when they can get far superior service and, more importantly, interest rates with other Turkish banks as well as the slightly riskier TRNC banks.
