Maybe some people will now learn what curfews mean..... or maybe not

It's all a bit vague though;
Logic would say the area affected would be from the by-pass to Guzelyali but where does that leave residents in Kayalar?
Also some people are saying it starts from midnight tonight yet the article in Yeniduzen and other papers clearly says midnight Monday.
Clarification very much needed.

Not before time.
Should be interesting, I feel sorry for the police who have to control the local characters .

Looking at the no travelling between districts thread which has the announcement on, my reading of it is you can still go to the shop but can’t travel out of your area. Eg if you live in Lapta and was popping into Alsancak for your shopping, you can’t anymore.

Effective immediately the Lapta karsiyaka alsancak quarantine. Then also from midnight Sunday for 5 days we are all to stay local in our villages. Nearest shop and home etc. Tatlisu police confirmed this evening no travelling.

How about the people who are driving in the kerfew ..... confiscate their car as a first stance then send then to prison and then fine them for risking our lives for their negligence.
Think the 2 posts I have put covers it.
OR NOT !

I sincerely hope that Credit West bank at the end of the by-pass next to Alpet Garage is considered as Alsancak?

Sophie - it is ( the actual Alsancak ‘border’ lies another half mile towards Girne ( there’s an over head sign).

Just as I interpret the Official announcement -

The commencement of the restrictions on travel was stated as 00:00 on April 6th, NOT 24:00 on April 6th - so it's the start of the day on Monday, rather than the end of Monday.

These announcements often lose something ın translation :)

Navel,
But your LGC link says “midnight on Monday”? As there is currently a full curfew from 9pm anyway why not start it from 9pm on Sunday?

I'll try again....

24:00 on Sunday is the same time as 00:00 on Monday, OK?

They are both 'midnight', yes?

Translating from Turkish to English is notoriously difficult, so you do need to use a little common sense in interpreting what was meant - the way that things are expressed in one language do not automatically come out the same in another language!

I understand it means no travel beyond the beginning of the bypass and no travel beyond the dam pump house at the foot of Kaylar.you must stay and shop etc in the area in between.

Yes it is, but 00:00 Monday is the beginning of Monday - not midnight Monday!

No. You must not leave your own area. If you live in Kayalar you cannot go to Karsiyaka without a permit!

The mystery of the missing minutes now becomes clear. The Miltary use of 23:59 followed by 00:01 is simple, but what happened to 24:00 and 00:00! Both are the same time and yet never used? Viola - the missing minutes - lol.

You're right, the inherent ambiguity is the reason that my electronic timer instructions contain a warning to avoid using 00:00 when setting an operating time.

I think that the Government official who prepared the announcement was unaware of this, as was the copy writer at LGC News :)

Is shopping really the problem? Or is it how people behave? Our local shops are small confined spaces, not easy to practise social distancing in... Travelling in a car hardly poses a threat.... I think the council of ministers need to seek advice on what is and what is not a risk factor.

It seems that deliberate close social interaction is what they need to concentrate stretched resources on... demonising careful shopping is a waste of time and takes the focus off the real problem.... idiots meeting up as a deliberate act of defiance.

I think that the main reason for this quarantine is to stop the spread of the virus from the pool of possibly infected people in Alsancak/Lapta/Karsiyaka to the rest of the population.

Discussing the pros and cons of shopping controls is off topic...

Given that this has been on for a few weeks now, I can't understand why anyone who has cash in the bank hasn't already drawn out enough to see them through at least the next month.

Maybe because they've used their own money to help others... Using up their funds more quickly than they had estimated?

I understand that there are a large number of people living here with their sole income being the UK State Pension. Whilst it is just sufficient to live on here it is still only paid into their accounts on a 4 weekly basis. If they also have limited savings which can quickly be used up or which they MUST keep in their bank in case of illness or essential needs then their monthly accounting will leave them with little spare cash.

Such people will rely on their pension income alone and any delay in being able to obtain their monthly allowance will put them into difficulty. Whilst not of their making, this pandemic has changed the rules we all live by and curfews such as we are all now under has changed their methods of bank quite drastically.

Nobody could foresee how this pandemic would play out and even if they could they would still be at the mercy of outside influence over which they have no control. Perhaps this is why some are now beginning to have problems with cash flow and all that it entails?

Just to let anyone know who doesn't already. The police are now fully in place at the bottom of the by-pass by Credit West. Cars are being stopped and spoken to. I expect permissions are having to be shown. Credit West was just fine. Arrived at 8.15, we were 6th in queue with no problems at all. Only one person at a time. I was with my husband and he was not allowed in a same time, so I dealt with his banking and my signature was accepted.

As I said on an earlier post, the road is closed at the beginning of the by-pass to the pump house at the foot of the Kaylar turnoff, you can shop etc in between those points.
As for not getting enough funds out of the bank,Groucho you were bang on,it seems some people know all on this site and its no wonder people leave.

Police Controlling Roads to Lapta, Alsancak and Karşıyaka
6th April 2020

Within the scope of the coronavirus measures, the Council of Ministers declared a curfew for five days starting at midnight on Sunday, to prevent people travelling from one area to another. Alsancak, Lapta and Karşıyaka regions were also put into regional quarantine to prevent coronavirus outbreaks.

12roman58, can't be sure, but I know two people who have got replies within 5 minutes. Whether there are banks of people sitting at PC's answering enquiries or whether its a computer replying and automatically refuses certain requests I'm not sure. Give the link a go and you'll soon find out.
